Pokemon fans should be happy to hear that the Game Freak RPGs that we know , love and have played for hours collecting beloved Pokemon in, will make it's way to the recently released Nintendo Switch. The bad news for us handheld fan kids , is that Pokemon RPGs will no longer show their face on the 3DS.
In an interview with Game Freak director Shigeru Ohmori, he explained that they've reached the limit on what they can do for the Pokemon RPG series on the 3DS:
"When we were making Pokemon X and Y, we really were trying to push the 3DS system to its absolute limits - which is what we thought we’d done. But when Sun and Moon came around, we completely redesigned the system, and actually ended up pushing the 3DS even further to what we thought was the most we could draw out of it. With Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon, we’ve tried to eke that out more and really, really push the system to its absolute limits, and we’re now feeling that perhaps this is the maximum of what we can get out. So we’re really treating Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon as the culmination of our work with the 3DS system."
Of course, there's no telling if Pokemon RPGs will slide back into handheld form should Nintendo create another "DS", but for now, all we have to look forward to is Nintendo showing us a new way to play Pokemon on the Switch.
Pokemon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon release on November 17 and if you're an uber Pokemon fan and want to celebrate it's last hoorah on handheld (for now), Nintendo has a Special Edition Pokeball Pokemon 2DS XL in stores November 3rd!
