Discussing the OpenIV Cease and Desist Debacle

in #gaming7 years ago

Recently, the developers of a modding program for the Grand Theft Auto games called OpenIV received a Cease and Desist from Rockstar and Take Two. OpenIV dealt with modding the single player campaign and not the multiplayer. In turn, the reviews for GTAV have taken a nose dive on Steam, with the game having a current Overwhelmingly Negative rating.

I'm a staunch believer in letting people do what they want when it comes to the products that they own, as long as it doesn't interfere with other people. I see it as a bad business move to allow people to mod the game for at least two years (on PC), and then all of a sudden, take that away from them.

In the video below, I list three possible reasons for why I believe there was a ban on these mods, and then pivot to the multiplayer modding scene.

Modding in multiplayer seems to deal a lot with money. There are other mods that people use, sure, but in my experience most people are wanting modders to give them free money. My solution to that would be to let people run the MC's, CEO, and Gun Running businesses in a private lobby, as well as the public ones, instead of forcing people to go to public lobbies to do it.

There will always be people looking for handouts, but for those of us that want to play the game without fear of losing all of our product to other players, this would be a huge help.

What do you all think about this Cease and Desist that was brought down by Rockstar and Take Two?

I think the company has forgot who is important which is the players and the community!!!! Which includes the mods!!! I love playing this game but I usually just drive around. Hope they learn their lesson the hard way!!

I hope they learned a lesson too. I don't see those reviews going away any time soon.

there are rumors going around that they let OpenIV run again but i dont know how true this is. Either Way i dont think that the negetive review should be removed until we hear some sort of apology from them for this because something like this should of never happen.
