Hello everyone
Today I am here to announce some news and plans for the future of the amazing gaming community "SteemGC". It's been about two weeks since the SteemGC was founded and it has been great. We have reached fourty nine members in the group so far and we have also had some time to get to know eachother a little bit through Discord and Steam.
The idea
I remember when I first thought of creating a community with Steemians who are interested in gaming. It would be a great way for us to be able to connect and play with eachother. It started off as an just a thought and as the days passed the more and more I kept brainstorming and finding new ways and ideas to add to the community.
The first thing we needed was a Steam page which would act as an easy way to gather all the gamers that are interested in one place. It would also make it easier for the members to start games with eachother through the Steam platform. I was really glad to see so many interested people apply to join the group and it only took about one day before we played our first game of Counter-Strike: Global Offensive with a full team of Steemians. Now that some time has passed I have come to notice that Steam is not the best place to gather people since it's very limited. I have instead begun planning a website of some sort that would work as a place to gather all the members and announce upcoming tournaments and overall news. This would also be used to keep track of records for the members and be able to better monitor and manage everything.
I have decided that we use a Discord channel for the group in the meantime. This can be used to connect with other players who are playing the same game as you and also for general talk in the group. We have so far used Discord for in game chat and also for setting up a few games. Now I am thinking until we have a website up and running for the group, Discord can act as the main portal for the members to connect with eachother. This also eliminates all the limitations the Steam platform has and opens the doors for gaming on other platforms like Battle.net, Riot Games and so on. You can join the Discord group by clicking on the link RIGHT HERE!. The Steam group will still be active and you can always join there if you like but the Discord server will now be the main place for everything.
What games will SteemGC be playing?
The games we have been playing with the group lately have been: CS:GO, PUBG and Paladins. But all types of games are welcomed in the group. I am currently looking into renting a server for CS:GO where we could start holding our first real matches between Steemians to start off with. In the future there might even be the same possibility for other games but for now I will start with CS:GO since it has seemed to be the most popular game so far. The plan is that the announcements for matches and tournaments will be posted on this account and there will even be a simple way to sign up. More on that once I get a couple of good servers set up. Remember to follow this account so you don't miss the announcements when it's time!
This account will also be used to curate quality gaming related posts and also SteemGC related posts. This will include e.g. the streams that use our logo and also good gaming posts in general. I will support this account myself by delegating my Steem power to it and that will be used for the voting.
The SteemGC team
At the moment I am looking for people who are interested in the idea and would like to help with building the SteemGamingCommunity. There will be a need for at least one curator(to start with) and we are also looking for a developer that is looking for a new project. If you think you are the one for the job then you can contact me on Steemit.chat or on the group's Discord server.
One of the earliest members of the group is not only a great player himself but he is also a great video editor. Meet @cheaky. After our first couple of games with the SteemGC he created an awesome video compiled of our matches and posted it here. If you haven't seen it please check it out below
He also took it upon himself to create a logo for the group and it turned out really great as you can see at the top of this post. A big thank you to him for all the great work so far. Remember to follow him for more great gaming content!
Conclusion
So this was kind of an "introduction post" for the group which I wanted to officially create on the SteemGC account. I hope you like our idea and vision so far. To learn more about the group you can visit our Steam page or come join us on our Discord server.
There will be news about upcoming matches and/or tournaments on this account in the future so keep your eyes open for those and remember to follow this account so you don't miss out.

Are games like FIFA included in the gaming list?
Yes all games can be played in the SteemGC as the players choose themselves. :)

Rocket League will probably make it's way into the group pretty fast since I think a lot of people play it :D I would love to get a vr-set but haven't been able to yet but sure I don't see why not VR-games :D

isn't there already a gaming community called Steam? I think the name is kind of confusing since there is already a well known Steam in this space.. Could even bring a cease and desist order if they notice it.

Before I run out of bandwidth yet again (is anyone else having issues with huge -% bandwidth for like half the day? it keeps happening, without fail, even if I only do plaintext) I'd just like to say that this is very cool and once I have access to a gaming rig again I'd love to join you all on some cs go, my main game is dota though so if anyone else plays that... that'd be dank.

@pinkdaddy yes I've wondered that about steemit in general ever since I joined, valve is a huge company and they like to protect their IP. In a similar vein I like the logo for the group but doesn't it seem just a bit... mozilla-related-ish?
Actually, now that I think about it, why can't some bigger steemites chip in and fund some pro teams, that would get some exposure to the platform for sure, and depending on what countries we want to get the word out to, we can assess which games are played where based on popularity in different global regions. Pretty darn cheap, they just need a game house and some ramen packets to start.
On a sort of related note I can help with scouting for free agents/talent selection and coaching in dota.

Great idea introducing the gaming community to Steem, I'd like to see more discussion about the gaming industry here. I posted a discussion on gaming as my first post.
Very cool. I admit I'm mainly interested in the community for the gaming content curation and discussion side--I don't play a lot of online multiplayer. (Though if there are folks who play, like, Armello or Tabletop Simulator or something, I might occasionally drop in on that!) So I'm glad to hear of the plans on that count!
I would love to join the group, but don't really play shooters. Would love to get a steem server for something like minecraft, or a guild on wow, or something like that.
