So, here it is, a pretty damn fun new game on the Steem Blockchain: Drug Wars. Developed by @hightouch who is known for @fundition, Drug Wars is inspired on a 20 year old similar drug / mob game I never played but is apparently known by many.
[The game was built in 21 days. Last 2 days have been used to test it. Today it went live. Yes, it's still buggy sometimes. But that also meant the website was loading a bit slowly so I was able to grab this screenshot :-) Gorgeous artwork!]
What is the goal of Drug Wars?
The idea is simple: build a drug empire, by upgrading buildings that produce drugs, alcohol and weapons, and every 24 hours receive a percentage of the STEEM that is spend in game - calculated by the relative amount of drugs you are able to produce.
I played a bit (much, I had decided today was a well-deserved day off) today, spent a bit of STEEM (more than I planned to), and mostly had a lot of fun.
How to start?
You start by clicking my referral link ;-) to the game. You'll be able to select your character which is a joy because all the descriptions are just fun to read :-) I picked Glenda because she seemed bad-ass and likes to kill bad guys on Thursday.
What next?
Well, under 'missions' you'll find the first basic steps to take. Do those first. Every step can be done by patience or by buying the upgrades with STEEM. One requires a lot of patience but your return will be growing without losing STEEM, the other requires a good grip on your wallet because boy do they make it easy for you to spend :-)
Two ways of earning
There are two ways of earning STEEM:
- You get a percentage of the prize pool (based on STEEM spend in-game that day) based on your drug production relative to others. 7% of all STEEM spend will be distributed that way.
- Another 1% will be put in a collective Heist and all the drugs you produce you can 'Invest' by clicking 'INVEST DRUGS' on the right side of your screen.
Protect yourself
Drugs you produce can be stolen :-) There's a battle mechanic in the game, and basically it's wise to recruit some units once you have some alcohol and weapons produced which is used to pay the fighters (again, you can also buy in with STEEM). Build a defensive team at first, and maybe start attacking others a bit later. I'm at this moment not exactly sure but I believe battling is not just a way to get more drugs (to invest in the Heist).
Another way to protect yourself: invest your drugs in the heist! Once invested they can't be stolen :-)
Results
I had too much liquid STEEM (thanks to the low dollar price :-)) so I spend about 150 STEEM today. Some buys I should have waited with because not all buildings are 'functional' yet, so they will only become of use in a few days. But I'll have them ready ;-) Today I got the following rewards:
More than 11 STEEM in total, and we'll of course have to see how this develops in the coming days.

Side note: will this game be good for Steem? I believe YES, these games have always been wildly popular and might attract some new users, and get some STEEM flowing in new directions. Will this game be good for the community? I don't know, will you still love me after I, sorry, Glenda, kicked your ass and stole your drugs?

I agree, i think the more fun things there are to do on this blockchain the more reasons people will have to stick around regardless of the steem price.
Gaming is quite a big industry that has many large spenders in it. I'm hoping once a few of these make a little money off what they created it will snowball into many wanting to invest the time and some resource into giving it a try.
I do hope Steem helps drive better and deeper games for playing a game on a blockchain. that just going come down to people seeing there an opportunity and taking the risk.
the game seems ot be really taking off for just being out there for a day, I wish I had more steem available but maybe its good I didnt or I would have spent to much on this game today LOL

I got invited to play this game today, it sounds like GTA to me which I love to play, I wish they had more female character options though haha.

Hehehe - yes, these kind of games always get me hooked pretty fast! As far as the referral goes: no cons for you, just an advantage for the one referring you: 5% bonus based on your production in the game. And YES for more strong female characters! ALWAYS!

well my character does not like to wake up early so :D

Interesting to see new dapps been integrated into the steem blockchain, I think the game will be interesting to play but I need to first understand fully the nitty gritty of this game. Nice review @soyrosa

If I can find time @soyrosa I'll follow along, though I'm going to share this so others can do it.
I'm really bad at games that require you to follow a set of rules, just my nature I guess. I think this is why I never liked any video games except Minecraft and Sims 1-3 (not 4) as they are free open ended games with no real reward other than free will :)
If I get a free moment I will try though. It seems interesting for sure.

I know!!! I had some liquid STEEM (which I bought, so it doesn't feel like I spent HOURS earning them... :')) and poof it was gone :D I thought let's play this 'from the top', so buy some high-earning drugs buildings first, and then upgrade the rest with the earnings. Maybe I'll feel good about this tactic in a few weeks time, or maybe I'll regret spending 150 STEEM ;-)
