Virtual reality is pushing hard these days. From gaming standpoint you can find many unique indie games. Mainstream media is hardly following those type of games so it is harder to find them. But yes, most gaming companies are making games that are using old familiar formulas that work.

Shadows of Adam is a great retro RPG reminiscent of the 16-bit era. I have beta access.
