Got this a few weeks ago. Ironically I've ended up with my most competitive time in a category I don't even like, but here we are. Good run, save for the missed Domdouken on D-Rex at the end. That cost me about 5-6 seconds, which I really would have liked to have. Also some really sloppy movement in the Penguin revisit. Regardless, it's a nice run, and if I never improve this time, it actually won't bother me that much.
I'm also taking a break from speedrunning to focus on other things. I've spent quite a lot of time on this hobby the past few years, and want to do something else.
I never gave much attention to speed runs, lately I'm very much enjoying that kind of content. You can see so many characters attempting those runs during Twitch events, it is so much fun. My kind of crew :)
I was also never into it prior to checking out Mega Man X speedruns. How cool the runs looked at a high level is what immediately drew me in, making me want to learn it. It's fun. Also stressful and a huge time sink, but fun.
I have a weird admiration for speedrunners, as I think speedrunning requires it's own level of extreme focus. I personally wouldn't be able to do that.
In addition to extreme focus, it is also required that you're very dumb. The more you believe in your own idiocy, the better your final time will be. This was stated by a former record holder once.
I thought about that too, but I'm too polite to point that out.
Every top runner, at least in the Mega Man X community, admits this lol.
I love Mega Man almost as much as I love Mario Bros.
