So I recently got back into Elite Dangerous, a very big and quite time consuming game, and again it managed to Impress me to tears .
Not only does Elite Dangerous have the best sound & atmosphere for a Space Sim game... not to mention having the best Vistas, like this one from a recent trip to Veil Nebula West... but also has one of the Coolest and Mature Communities out there.
Today I want to share some awesome events that left a deep impression and respect for the Elite Community.
So since I got into Elite, I started to look over Elite news, updates, new mechanics etc... in order to catch up with the game and what I found is - Enigma Expedition !
So why is this Expedition so impressive?! Well... it's a Community Triggered Event and it was done for CMDR DoveEnigma13 aka Brandon Keith, 39, from Tucson, Arizona and he's been battling tumors for almost 3 incredibly tough years now.
Sadly, seems Brandon is not winning the battle against cancer and is on the last few miles in this world. Still... one of his dreams, was to visit a far away place in Elite Dangerous:
- Colonia , a system ~22.000 Ly (Light-years) away from SOL (our solar system).
Seeing this, many Commanders from Elite Community, gathered, organized, planned, equipped their ships and prepared to make this happen for Brandon, joining him in this journey, making sure he will reach Colonia... which will be the final destination for Cmdr DoveEnigma13, in Elite Dangerous.

Another aspect is that even Frontier, Elite developers, joined in on this and actually created a new Wells-Class Carrier Station in the Colonia System and named it Dove Enigma , to remember Brandon and this Expedition.
This is indeed, an impressive event showing the unity of the Elite Community and Devs... Yet... there will always be those that are outside, nasty ppl, griefers, trolls, causing harm and showing disrespect wherever possible.
In this case, seems that a few of them organized and Bombed the Dove Enigma Station, an actual attempt to sabotage the Dove Enigma and the Enigma Expedition.
The term is UA Bombed, meaning that they used alien technology (Thargoid Sensors) and brought it into the station using Black Market.
Now... carrying Thargoid Sensors causes harm to any human ships and, if high amounts are brought into a station, they will start to overload that Station, causing it to take damage and shut down.
But yet again... the Elite Community Jumped to help and groups like the Hutton Orbital Truckers organized, got their hauler ships, filled them with meta-alloys - which is the only material what can counter-act the Thargoid tech effects and repair the damage - and started their long and high-paced journey to Dove Enigma, to deliver the alloys and repair the station before the Expedition, with Cmdr Brandon, arrives.
And... they were successful! See the official news article about this here:

The lengths Elite Players went to, the efforts and the fact that so many came together for this one goal... for this one PERSON... is amazing, really impressive and touching.
Currently the Expedition consists of 584 Commanders, not counting those that helped with the Station Repair, started on Jan 12th and is planned to end on Feb 11th, a month of journeying along and for Brandon, Cmdr DoveEnigma13.
Even thou the game is not perfect and is considered one that requires a lot of grinding and time to play... I now consider it having one of the best gaming communities out there.
