Happy 1st birthday to the Nintendo Switch! After the disappointing sales of their previous console the Wii U, Nintendo really had to knock one out of the park with their followup console.
Thankfully, they did
The Nintendo Switch hasn’t only drastically outsold the Wii U, it sold more units in under a year than the Wii U did in its lifetime! But that’s only the tip of the iceberg for the great news. Let’s look a some other positive stats.
The Switch is the fastest-selling game console EVER

At least when compared to the first 10 months of sales for other consoles. Its even surpassed the blistering sales pace set by the Wii a decade ago.
Seven games have sold over 1 million units

The Switch has staggeringly-high sales figures for its flagship titles, and even lower-tier games have sold extremely well.
Super Mario Odyssey – 9.07 million
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe – 7.33 million
Zelda: Breath of the Wild – 6.70 million
Splatoon 2 – 4.91 million
1-2 Switch – 1.88 million
ARMS – 1.61 million
Xenoblade Chronicles 2 – 1.06 million
However, it would be great to see some third-party games on this list to encourage more support from big publishers that don’t start with “N” and end with “intendo.” Skyrim has sold about a half million, while Doom is struggling to hit the quarter-million sales mark.
Nintendo expects to sell an additional 20 million units this year

This would put the Switch hot on the tail of the XBox One and push it over lifetime sales of both the GameCube and Nintendo 64.
Does this mean Nintendo is back?

Yes, but they’re going to have to keep up this momentum. So what should Nintendo be doing now to ensure that 2018 is going to be another strong year leading into 2019? Tomorrow, I’ll be diving into that question, so come back tomorrow to get my opinion about what Nintendo needs to do to keep this ball rolling.
So have you picked up a Switch yet? Has it lived up to your expectations or fallen short? What's your favorite Switch games? Let's discuss!

I love the versatility of the Switch. Basically, it's what the Wii U should have been. I'm a bit gutted that there's no migration discount for those that bought games for the WiiU originally especially in terms of digital purchases but I play the WiiU versions instead and in one way, knowing how poorly the WiiU sold, it's nice that more people will get to experience the gems in its library through the improved ports. I do hope they sort out the online, virtual console and add Game Cube vc, however! Happy Birthday Switch! :)
Absolutely. Those of us who supported the Wii U should have gotten discounts on all these ports. If I bought Mario Kart 8 Deluxe on Switch my total investment in that game between the Wii U version and the DLC would be over $130 for that game alone.
Can't believe it's been out that long. Time flys.
You got to love how Mario Kart never gets old. It's come along way since those early days (well the graphics anyway) still same great game play.
