Layers of Fear Spooky Game Review & Unboxing - Rerez

in #gaming7 years ago

So I got a game sent to me called Layers of Fear which I played at night which I don't recommend. It's a horror game and I'm not a big horror game fan. I don't play a lot of horror games. I've played Alone in the Dark and Resident Evil but I played those games mostly for their mechanics and their fun, cheesy stories. Those games never really scared me. But Layers of Fear? That one did.

See Layers of Fear is pretty much just a walking simulator. You're going around in all these rooms in this weird, creepy house in a very linear path. You're finding all these objects everywhere and once you’ve collected all these objects you take them and you make a painting with them. All the objects aren't like paint brushes and paint. They’re blood, hair, bone, creepy shit like that. You know what though that's cool. It's a horror game it's supposed to be like that. But one of the things that this game does a lot of is jump scares. It's got thousands of jump scares all over the place. You might think once you've seen a couple jump scares it's not going to freak you out too much because you're going to expect jump scares at every corner. Well it plays with the idea of jump scares with visual scenes of strange warped images of hallways, melting paintings, ghosts, dolls running around and loud obnoxious scary sounds. Then it does a great job of moving stuff around in a way where you just don't expect things to happen.

In fact the whole visual feel of this game is very similar to P.T. It's got really good lighting and it's got really cool graphic effects using the engine very well. But I'll say this I still didn't really enjoy it. I'm just not that kind of person to really enjoy getting scared. It's just one of those things where I know people can enjoy these kind of games on a very fundamental level of just being scared the crap out of but for me it just doesn't work. But if you're looking for a game that's going to freak you out this might be one you’d be interested in. But I wasn't.

This is a great indie game, I played it because of my love for horror games and my great friend @Nedrox, that gave it to me as a birthday gift. One of the coolest and better redacted games I have seen. The visual cuality is amazing for and indie and the story can be a bit shocking. Maybe you didn't like getting scared that much but it's a wonderful post about a great game.

I'm about to start playing this one in a day or two, as I was very intrigued by the art atmosphere. I didn't like when I read "walking simulator" and "thousands of jump scares", but I'm willing to give it a try because it looks like a good trip.

I hope I like it more than you did, though.

Watched a lot of videos of this game, it was indeed very creepy and some of the jump scares were well done. It wasn't a perfect game but it was better than most mediocre efforts I've seen in the past.

have never played it before, but it seems to be difficult
