RE: SimCity (2013): Can it be Redeemed?

in #gaming7 years ago

Civilization and SimCity. The staples of my gaming life. I've put thousands of hours into various Civ games, and many hundreds into the SimCity games.

I wasn't nearly as down on the launch as many of the fans were, but it was a fairly huge fail to not allow single player offline (as not allowing single player offline for any game is...)and with the server difficulties, Well, I just played the previous SimCity, or Civ, or one of my other games and came back to it later.

Sadly because Origin is such a painful launch platform, I've still not really put much time into it though, but I do intend at some point to actually get back to it. There is a solid game in there, that was just hiding under a bunch of launch issues, which is something EA is pretty well known for having with all it's games, be it bugs or server failures, or something else. I can't remember what their last launch was where there weren't issues at launch that should have been fixed beforehand.

As for the issues with city space, I think that's part of adjusting to the different concept of this game, over the past ones, where you are supposed to be building a group of cities that work together, rather than a single city that does everything. Would it be nice to have a larger map, but less cities in the region? I'm sure some would like that, but then I've always wanted a larger map eventually in every version of SimCity. If I want a single city that does everything, I'd probably go play SimCity 3 or 4.

I, too, have put many hours into Civilization games. I'm looking forward to the new expansion for Civ 6!

I think you'd enjoy the game going back to it now. I've not played the previous SimCity versions, but I think I'll give them a shot sometime for comparison's sake.

You're right about the city space thing. It is fun to build multiple cities in one region, but I think it would be equally as fun to have one mega city that you could put everything in. I'll have to hit up SimCity 4 to get this aspect of the game.

Lastly, I apologize for my delay in responding to your comment. I appreciate the time and effort you took to respond, but sometimes comments just slide under the radar. Thanks again.

Totally understand that delays happen. The notification system on here leaves almost everything to be desired. I've never noticed it actually working for anything actually useful!

Maybe when I get some time I'll have another look at it. For my 'simcity' scratch I've been playing Cities in Motion 2 or more often, Cities XXL.

So if you're on Discord and you want a solution for notifications, check out the fantastic new project called GINAbot. It's great for on the spot notifications for all things Steemit!

Thanks for the suggestions for the other games. I'll definitely look into them!
