Hey steemers! Steemgaming is a series where I review videogames I purchased with steem. Sometimes I will review free games as well because once in a while, the best things in life are free. Today I will review:

Captain Bible in Dome of Darkness is a Christian bible study game from 1994. The story takes place in a distant sci-fi future. The Bible Corps, a group of people fighting to spread the word of Christ, have hired superhero Captain Bible to save a town engulfed by a dome of darkness. A villain only referred to as ‘’the enemy’’ has planted a ‘’tower of deception’’ in the city which generates the dark dome which is really an ‘’anti-truth field’’ which makes people very prone to being deceived. Presumably, this means Satan has built a magical tower in the middle of the city that is turning everyone into atheists. Okay then.
Captain Bible must infiltrate the city and power up a holy giant robot (yes, a giant robot!)to destroy the tower of deception. The robot requires seven people to control it, so you have to rescue some sinners before you can smash the tower. There are seven people, each representing one particular sin. There’s idolatry, greed, drug addiction, occultism, cowardice, unethical research and legalism. To get to them you have to get past some satanic robots. When you engage them in battle, they tell you a lie; you have to prove them wrong with a suitable bible quote. Then they explode into a pile of green goo.
Here’s an example of a lie you must disprove:
A..are they saying that rainbows are not light refracting through water? Seriously now?

My rating: 6/10
Religious games generally have a reputation for being so bad they’re unholy, but this one is different. The gameplay is innovative, the artwork is nice by 1994 standards and the story is so silly that it’s enjoyable even for nonbelievers. For Christians, this game might make a genuinely useful bible study tool. For atheists, it’s the definition of so bad it’s good. If you want to have fun memorizing bible verses or if you have a thing for schlocky media, check it out. Otherwise, Captain Bible probably won’t be up your alley.
