Bethesda Showcase Rants and Reactions

in #gaming7 years ago (edited)

Since I am changing my blog to a Monday, Wednesday, and Friday schedule, I want to have a structure to how I post. So, what I am thinking is having Monday be a weekend reflection and/or travel post maybe a food post if I went somewhere cool. Something along those lines.

Fridays, I am going to try doing something new, I am going to start making post in Korean, utilizing new words and phrases that I have learned throughout the week. Also, I will have a translation provided and highlight the grammar and key vocab for anyone else that wants to learn along with me.

Then, on Wednesdays, since I don't have any contest these days, I will do some ranting. We are in 2018 and hot news is all around us (for better or for worse) and I want to dissect what I see and just give my ideas. These won't be anything professional or even good, I just see things that make me go "WTF" or "That's awesome." So, I just wanna give my two cents on the latest news like any other blogger begging for attention lol so let's get into it.

Bethesda's E3 announcements

Fallout 76

I have been a Bethesda fan since Marrowind and though I haven't played a console since coming to Korea, I am interested in Fallout 76. Seeing the initial trailer for it, I had a negative impression, it looked like a crappy spin-off where you live in the vault throughout the war. Made me remember the Vault-Tec Workshop dlc in Fallout 4. I was so excited to see vault life, but then I spent more time building the vault to find out you can't do anything else except have another settlement 😤

Fallout 76 is different through and taking more of a page from New Vegas, where you aren't that SPECIAL. You are just another survivor of the Great War from a vault that wasn't a disaster. That is enabling some more open ended story telling that I believe we want to have from an RPG, I don't care about my family, I wanna kill everyone!

Then, with that kind of story enabling the multiplayer addition seems like they have the right idea in introducing it. Also, being able to turn that off is also great because some of us don't need friends, just give us a dog lol

However, base building is, meh. It is cool, but it also takes so much time and feels gimmicky. Every RPG is going with this weapon crafting and base building idea, that it doesn't feel special anymore. Remember grinding the crafting skills in Skyrim?? 😴 If the online can be played where you don't need to have bases and you can just kill things and keep going with your own story, I'm game.

Every walk of life, Bethesda? How about Slashy Mcbat Phsyco who doesn't belong in society, has a jet addiction, and introduces himself with a bat to the face. What I'm saying is, I don't want base building to be essential to story or level progression in the game, not all of us like crafting mechanics.

On the other hand, I like the random nuclear missile sites. That is introducing some sound chaos to the Fallout world. Find some codes with friends or by yourself and drop a missle on the biggest base and ruin some kids' last 5 hours of work lol It also ties into the area with West Virginia having missle silos scattered about.

Now, the area, I am most skeptical about, because it feels a little late to the party. Farcry 5 is doing that backwoods America theme with rednecks. Now Fallout is doing it. Fallout 4 came out in 2015, when the Duck Dynasty, Honey Boo Boo days were 2012ish, you both are missing the train here. It feels like since Trump got elected you both wanna take a stab at his supporters, but it is a again a little late.

I'm still waiting for a Fallout game to take place in China, that would be an interesting twist for the series. Even Alaska and have remnants from the frontlines of the war along with chilling temps that could add more to the survival aspect. Play on a different aspect of the lore and fight the Brotherhood, but the idea of being the first vault to open is also cool.

Now, the engine they are using is the same, which is disappointing even if the graphics are better. You would think after 3 years, they would update. In the end though, I don't know anymore than anyone else so these are just my thoughts, and I might get it just to play with friends back in America.

Last thing, I like that they are doing a beta launch. It's nice that they realize and admit their games come out pretty broken on launch. That's one thing that is just annoying, also get rid of creation club. We don't wanna pay for game crashing mods 😠 just allow us to add mods.

Elder Scrolls VI

Those liars! They have been working on it! And, well there isn't anything I can really say about it because Tom just teased it. I do like how they are self-aware enough to know fans are sick of the constant porting of Skyrim. It was good, but it wasn't good enough to milk for six years...

Elder Scrolls Blades

Meh, seriously just meh. It sounds like the equivalent of Fallout Shelter. Graphically looks cool and it nods to older games, but I didn't grow up on those so not really interesting to me.

Starfield

This, this is what I want to see. I have been waiting for this for a year now and seeing it finally announced has got me screaming internally. All we have is a teaser trailer of really nothing but its name. I'm not going to speculate except (allow me this one) this runs on a new engine and will be the engine for ESVI and Fallout 5. I'm excited to finally see this being close to launch!

Fallout Shelter

About them being self-aware, they ported this out to two systems. I thought that was a funny way to end their announcements 😂 It may be free, but you guys will still milk anything won't you?
