It’s the post-modern equivalent of the cola wars. It’s like the gamer’s version of the chicken or the egg. Leaving a few companies out of the mix for the moment (sorry, Nintendo), most console war arguments begin with a simple question – are you an X-Box or a Playstation fan? Team Microsoft or Team Sony?
ARE YOU TEAM X-BOX?
Of course, you can be both, but that does require a pretty big financial investment, as well as the ability to deal with crossovers, exclusives, and two different tech standards. Then there are those who swear by their chosen device, wishing nothing short of death on those who don’t believe in their video game server of choice.
OR ARE YOU TEAM PLAYSTATION?
So, aside from plunking down nearly $1K for both, what can you do? Well, if you’re YouTube tech head Ed Zarrick (who goes by the handle EdsJunk), you find a cheap and inexpensive way to combine the two. Now, before you say it, we understand what’s being advocated – the buying of one each both consoles. Kind of defeats the purpose, right? True, but with ease of use and space-saving simplicity, the gear nerd may be onto something.
WELL, NOW YOU CAN HAVE BOTH
Ed has made some intriguing tech mashups before, like his Playbook 4s which is basically a Playstation laptop. Here, everything fits in an X-box like containers and there’s a switch that allows you to change device at will. It runs through a single HDM1 cord (eliminating the need for two TV ports) and also offers a few fun bells and whistles for added effect. Check out the video below, and see if you’re not impressed. Ed does sell his fun Frankenstein creations but they don’t come cheap. Something like this will set you back about $1500.
