PUBG vs. Fortnite: Battle Royale

With the recent popularity of the Battle Royale / Hunger Games genre there have been two really standout titles in the past months. These two games have become the two front runners in popularity within this genre of games. Here are my thoughts on these two last man standing phenomenons.

PUBG

PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds  was the biggest game of the summer, making almost everyone forget about H1Z1 King of the Kill. This game has everything we ever wanted from a game of this type. There are various cars, a good array of weapons and a realistic feeling survival shooter.

First off I got to say I love the shooting mechanics, they feel so realistic and it makes kills really rewarding. For being kind of a realistic looking game it does have its fun moments of glitches, crazy car explosions, and intense situations that can have you shitting your pants sometimes.

My two biggest complaints about this game are there is only one map and it does get a little frustrating sometimes. They one map that the game already has is great: its huge and has lots of cool and unique areas. Sadly this does get boring playing the same map every time. You probably will get frustrated with this game here and there especially if your games consist of you running around trying to find people and then you get sniped out of fucking nowhere and you never know who killed you or where they killed you from.

Overall this is a great game to play with friends and see if you can survive the military hunger games. There is nothing more fun than when you and your buddies team up and clearing buildings in search of better gear and your prey.

Fortnite

This game kind of came out of nowhere and to the best of my knowledge is more popular than PUBG now. This is a unique take on the survival shooter and it pays off. Fortnite: Battler Royale is a cartoony shooter where you and possibly your friends will survive to the death in a Disney cartoon looking world.

There are a couple of things that set this game apart from others, the main one is the building aspect. You go around with pickaxes destroying stuff to get resources and you can use those resources to build walls, stairs, and floors. You can build forts to defend yourself or cages for the downed enemies so they will never be able to crawl away from their eminent doom. This is a really cool feature that is executed pretty dam well.

The biggest problem I had with this game at first was the shooting mechanics. The shooting mechanics are a little weird with this cartoony art style. After I played for a bit and watched videos on youtube I eventually got the hang of it. I also don't like how often you find guns because they are pretty much in every building.

Fortnite is also original in the some of the silly updates they have come up with. Recent updates have included Pumpkin Rocket Launchers, Jump pads, and bush disguises. Thats right you can try to murder everyone in the world while disguised as bush. Make sure to shoot all bushes or you might get stabbed in the back by a shrub

In conclusion Fortnite is a fantastically original and well done cartoony bloodbath of pure fun and enjoyment. The updates keep coming and I forgot to mention this game is free to play. The base building and array of play styles that can be implemented are great and it keeps the game  from getting old.

Overall

I love both of these games, I have played them for hours extensively and I don't think I am going to stop anytime soon. To say one is better than the other is wrong, because they might have similar objectives but the games are totally different. I would recommend playing both with friends and I believe you should play PUBG if your looking for a realistic shooter. You should check out Fortnite because it is just a fucking good time. Both are great and I believe they are the best two games in this genre.

Great review. Personally I prefer Fortnite as I can play it on PS4. Console over PC.

Thanks for the feedback. I love playing Fortnite on the PS4 with my friends . I have been playing that a little more than I have been playing PUBG recently. Both are great though

I recently got a PS4 so been able to play a bit of Fortnite. It's been pretty fun so far. Though, it feels pretty weird coming from playing CS:GO since hitboxes and sprays are wide and wonky. Still, fun game all around!

Yeah I had the same problem it felt really weird at first but you will get used to it and it just gets more fun

Better compare w/ dota. #imho
