Ravastina and Urolin Dophic--D&D Character Backstory

in #gaming7 years ago (edited)

Greetings steemians! The following is the backstory for @patelincho's (Ravastina) and my (Urolin) character for the D&D campaign starting tomorrow on the Whaleshares Discord server:

Ravastina was a High Elf of a family known for its magical prowess. Coming from a long line of powerful wizards it was no surprise when she began showing signs of magical talent at a young age. So, her parents sent her to study with Walrusian, the most powerful wizard in all of Elvenhome on the Eastern shores of Star Lake. With her high intelligence and natural magical proficiency, she quickly became his top student. One day they noticed some dark smoke across the lake and it appeared to be coming from the vicinity of his good friend Azurhan Dophic the sorcerer's tower near the Stones of Prophecy. So they set out across the lake to investigate.

Azurhan had never been trusted by the people in the township. Rumors of him having dragon blood in his veins led to the villagers eyeing the tower he resided in with mistrust and fear. However, he had a reputation of being one of the most powerful magic users in all of Clichea and none had ever wanted to confront him. Until the dragon showed up that is.

When the great blue dragon appeared the villagers really began to get nervous. Soon rumors abound that it was responsible for the shepherd's missing lamb or that child who (may have) disappeared 2 villages over. The townsmen gathered up a posse to go confront the sorcerer in his tower one day. Yet, they were all afraid to approach him. Then a hunter spotted Azurhan through a window in the tower. In an act of 1 part bravery and 2 parts cowardice he notched an arrow, took aim, and shot the wizard in the back.

The townsmen went back to the tavern to celebrate their "victory" with flagons of ale. Around dusk there arose a terrible sound the likes of which none in the village had ever heard. The dragon had returned to the tower to find the sorcerer dead and had issued a mourning wail that would have woken the dead. Enraged she flew to the town, destroying everything in her path with her lightning breath. Trees and buildings caught fire and the town was ravaged. The villagers put up a fight but all were soon killed. However, they had managed to severely wound the dragon who died in the night.

Ravastina and Walrusian arrived to find the town devastated. Amid the smoldering remains of the town lie the body of the great blue dragon. Fearing the worst, they rushed to the tower of Azurhan only to find him lying dead in his library. However, they also found a single egg.

Bringing the egg back to their home the egg soon hatched into a young dragonborn. Walrusian named him Urolin. Elves are a very long lived race and dragonborn grow up quickly. Within a few years Urolin was ready to begin his education. Walrusian sent for a warrior from a human village to teach Urolin the art of fighting and swordsmanship. Soon, he entrusted his star pupil, Ravastina to teach him reading and writing and instruct him on the intricacies of the Draconic language.

Spending close time together a flourishing romance soon developed. However, inter-racial relationships were highly frowned upon in Elven society, particularly a High Elf and a dragonborn and they tried to keep their romance a secret. One day Walrusian went to go check to see how Urolin's studies were progressing when he saw him and Ravastina kissing in a passionate embrace.

Walrusian was perplexed. He didn't know what to do. This relationship was improper for Elven society. Yet, he had been teaching Ravastina for more than half her life and loved her like a daughter. Urolin he had raised as a son. He could see that they were deeply in love and however unlikely the romance he wanted nothing more than for them to be happy. Besides, they were a young couple in love and would not be dissuaded. He figured the only thing he could do was to send them away, far from Elvenhome where they might find some place, any place, where they could live their lives in happiness...

Been meaning to check out the DnD section to steemit!! :) This was a great start, dropping a follow!

This is a very well written story-line and character development introduction - nice job! So many possible plots could spin off from each of the characters in time. Was the drawing at the top made for this, or something that just fit in?

It just kind of fit....

Ahhh - Sounds like that could be another Whaleshares Art contest, perhaps? :-)

lol - just replied to myself...
