Some of you may remember the classic Cossacks game that was developed by the Ukrainian developer GSC Game World back in 2000, taking place around the 17th and 18th century, with massive battles and thousands of troops simultaneously on the battlefield. This was something spectacular back in the day, and this was shown by the huge financial success of the company.

Nowadays it's hard to differentiate yourself from the hundreds of RTS (Real-time strategy) titles that have been released since then. A few examples of some big titles are the Total War series, the StarCraft series, and not to forgot the Age of Empires series. Yes, even the oldies are still being played and adored by many players.

Cossacks: European Wars

After 16 years GSC Game World decided to develop their third instalment of the Cossacks series, Cossacks 3. The game was released on September 20th, 2016. However there was a lot of speculation whether the game would live up to the hype. I can say that after playing 20 hours of it I was really surprised, maybe it also had to do with the fact that my nostalgia glasses were on, but I found the game to be really fun.

Not only the campaign was surprisingly fun, but also just picking a random map and going all-in vs. four NPC opponents is heaps of fun. Besides all the massive battles I fought I can honestly say that this game looks beautiful, all the historical buildings and units have gotten a re-skin, nothing has been left untouched by the developers. For the people who are really creative, don't worry, they have added an editor so you can even create your own maps!
