Nintendo from the first portable console that published on the market called Game Boy has had an undoubted commercial success, having a number of revenues that were quite enviable by their competitors over time, as the years went by this was evolving filling of surprises to consumers, in addition to new titles that over time became great gems of video games.
One of its latest portable consoles removing the Nintendo Switch that would be a hybrid is the Nintendo 3DS, it went on the market in February 2011, it is more than 7 years old and it is still selling, although it seems that this console is currently totally obsolete, it certainly has an excellent catalog of video games, but it is impressive that despite its hardware it has remained firm over the years.
Currently a Smartphone has more power than this console, being able to run applications or graphics in a more efficient way, how can this be possible? Let's analyze a bit the 3DS hardware, its processor is a Dual Core ARM 11 with a speed of 266 Mhz, this was created with this reason because one processor would be responsible for the graphic rendering and the other of the 3D section, currently there are processors that can do this task more efficiently, RAM of 128 MB and VRAM of 4 MB, it is impressive that at this point with these numbers of memory still continue to take titles for this console, it was certainly never characterized by having outstanding graphics but at present it is clearly notice how obsolete it is.
It is for this reason that Nintendo released the 2DS in its different versions, not having the 3D function frees one of the cores making the video game better, there are also cartridges that occupy the entire RAM of the console, blocking the section of multitasking to run them more efficiently, when wanting to change the cartridge is clearly noted that the 3DS is turned off and on, this is to release all the memory loaded returning its multitasking function.
The factor that still keeps the 3DS alive is unquestionably its catalog, although the most relevant are two communities, the immense online sea of Mario Kart and the great world of Pokémon, Nintendo has managed to keep its users active, obtaining great profits in the Currently, I consider that this portable console still has a few more years of life, this is the output of the Nintendo Switch, if they were to take a new portable console this last would be in the background, having significant losses in the market.
Despite all the 3DS is still one of the most played portable consoles today, defeating more than one competitor in all these years, showing that not always a graphic power is what matters in video games, excellent titles with good entertainment can extend to life of any console, although I am one of the people who would like to see a next generation of portable consoles, but with the intervention of the Switch in the market I think it is something that will take a long time to become a reality.

There is no reference article because this is a content of my authorship, thank you very much for the comment @gameoverr
The 3ds is still an awesome console, really disappointed in today's announcement that dq11 won't be localized on it. The 3ds version looked awesome.
Personally I still have my 3DS, the games that I keep just look lacking, it really is a shame that in this new batch the 3D function no longer exists. Thanks for your comment @gurudeva.
Gotta admit that my main reason for owning the 3DS Is solely Pokemon games and it has been all of these years. Its always easy to grab on the go and my kids absolutely love it. We have a huge collection of games for it and we still continue to buy games. Despite not having the best graphics on the market it still reigns victorious. Nintendo really do tick all of the boxes where handhelds are concerned. Im also quite happy that Nintendo have managed to bring it back with the Nintendo Switch, I was dissapointed both with the Wii and WiiU and im hugely impressed with the Switch.
