It also doesn't help that most television stations have sped up older programming so they can squeeze in another commercial or two per half hour. That can cause disorientating feelings while viewing.
Oh my goodness! I had not heard that one. I listen to yt tutorials and 1.5 or 2.0 and sometimes i have to stop for just that reason. I do not know how anyone can watch tv at all but I guess it is addictive. So glad i never really watched. My dad was one to let us watch only one show and that was it. I never really got into it much. I got rid of it when my son was 5 and he did not want to do anything until the commercial came on. It only took a couple of weeks before we both no longer cared it was gone. He has thanked me a few times since then. He says it's hard to be friends with people who watch tv.
It is certainly a change of pace not having television. We have it but I mainly only watch WWE wrestling, Ghost Adventures and the occasional childhood cartoon I own on DVD. We don't watch a lot of regular television back to back "binge" style like a lot of people do.
I believe television has a way of programming people over time. I don't think it is a government agenda, just simple marketing. People that watch certain shows like/dislike certain things and it has been studied before. Like the age old question - were you a fan of The Addam's Family or The Munsters? There have been studies that show a lot about you (basic stuff) depending on which you preferred. It is weird and unsettling.
I have the idea of "protecting my psyche." With yt I either listen without watching or watch without listening. Doing both is too entrancing for me. I'm not able to watch movies in the theater at all. The last few I went to I just closed my eyes and rested. This was the last star wars and one of the batman versions for my son. In the 80's I did not watch Dallas or Dynasty and people at work actually pitied me for missing these works of art.
I am of the belief that "govt" is a front for evil doers behind the scenes. Only a few people own all the big media in the world.
Crazy info on the munsters/addams feud. I was a child in the 60's and my dad did not allow either one of them. I appreciate him so much more as I age.
Sadly, money talks. Especially with government (in particular the United States government). That is how we ended up with so few owning so much of what the populace sees/hears/reads. The people in charge collected the money necessary to effect change on the laws that kept them from forming conglomerates and hoarding power. Now they have done that and well, you don't have to watch much television to understand the ramifications this has had on the United States.
I grew up in the 80's and watched my mom almost drool at the mouth watching Dallas. Looking back on it, it is sad. I watch a lot of wrestling myself but I have never been addicted to it like that - I leave it on and pay attention when wrestlers I like get a bit of screen time, otherwise I am plugging away on PR stuff trying to make a better future for me and my family.
It seems like this is a good place to talk about these issues. I red-pill Americans about their toxic food supply even though I am not there anymore. In the last year or two I have finally started to get traction. I'm hoping that re-posting all that content here will make a difference. There is a lot to keep up with, but keeping yourself healthy enough to live another day should be on the top of the list. I'm very hopeful for my time on this platform :)
I definitely agree that this is probably the best place to discuss stuff like this. If you look through my article list you can see I have gone all over the place with my writing and only had one bad experience so far (some guy accusing me of trying to cause the value of Steem to drop for whatever reason).
There is a completely different reaction to stuff here than there is on a site like Facebook or Reddit. People actually engage you in conversation which is great.
