Is it too late to make a post?🙈
Hi guys, Im writing this pretty late in Irish time however I managed to put up my game up on itch.io to play for free. Its a work in progress and I only had a month to work on it while trying to do other assignments. The game was made using a JavaScript framework called Phaser which I really enjoyed using. A lot of it was self taught and we had to do the whole game, concept and artwork resource ourselves. I used a lot of open source assets however for characters, they were all created using a character making software.
The game only has two levels, although we were told only to do one and I felt pretty happy to get this much done only in a period of 4 weeks. There is a beginning, the middle (gameplay) and the end of the story. There were many bugs which some are still there. However the whole project was exciting to finish ...after I replayed every level and every inch of it about a gazillion times!
Originally it was supposed to be made for an Android device which is why the buttons are a bit weird as they are supposed to be touch screen however whenever I add some more levels, I will add a proper keyboard input as well (I actually have the code for it somewhere as its how we tested the games before submitting them).
Here are some screen shots from the game:
So where is the link?
Here it is: https://eriluks.itch.io/tylers-quest
Everyone is welcome to play and please do give me some advice as it is my first ever properly made game! (Which has a lot of work to do ...)
How to play:
Hover over the 4 rectangles on the right hand side or press them ( on mobile - press ) to move either left, right,up or down. (each rectangle's placement shows which direction Tyler will go)
You must find the right key in order to open the door and progress through the level.
There is a timer near the entrance which tells you how much time you have to complete the level.
Love life.
Love, Eriluks 💖
Great job Erika!
Thank you!!! <3
How do I move the guy? I'm on a PC.
And now I'm dead.
Ghost is coming again please help!
Do you see the small 4 squares on the right? they are for movement :P you can either hold them or just hover over them with your mouse. A bit hard to navigate I know! Gonna have to fix that first
Ah ok. I managed to die immediately again even after learning to move.
hahah yeah it can be a bit challenging :P also in the first level if you get the right key he doesnt stop moving during the dialog which I need to fix as well however it works perfectly fine in level 2 ! thank you for playing , I will definitely update it and should be easier to play using a keyboard!
Omg. I love you :)
Interesting, I'm a fan of phaser, I've to study it more!
2 simple request:
thanks
Phaser is awesome but can be a bit of a pain as there is a lot of debugging involved ! Yes you can certainly add keys for movement , I had keys originally but for the purpose of my assignment I had to make it for a mobile device.
And yes you can certainly do that, thats one of the bugs actually :( it works perfectly in level 2 but I gotta fix the issue in level 1 . Hes originally supposed to stop
pretty cool game, man i wish i could make games
Thank you ^^ its still work in progress. There are many tutorials that can be found online and free software so you can definitely create one ^^ Phaser is nice as there are many examples that you can find ^^
Nice. Seems like a fun little game, bit hard to control on computer though, haha.
I just started trying to teach myself how to make games a few days ago, it's good fun. Hopefully I'll be able to make something like that within four weeks, haha.
Hahha yes I know :( we werent even taught as to how put it up on android so I havent even tested wether it works ok on the phone :P I will add keys soon though ^^
Oh brilliant ! Are you using Phaser as well or something else ? Oh god dont get me started , our lecturer was useless and didnt provide anything at all so literally everyone just went by examples online. Because my game was a completely different concept I literally had tk figure out how Im going to make it work . Its a pain in the ass but once its complete you feel very accomplished !
No, your post is the first I've heard about Phaser. I've been trying out the Godot engine and I'm really enjoying my experience so far. Here's a link to a post and a video I put up yesterday or the day before showing the little bit I've been able to achieve so far. And yeah, when you want to do something that's not really covered in any major tutorials, or something that goes beyond what you've already been taught, it can be a nightmare to find the right information online.
Lecturers can be a pain sometimes when they expect you to be able to do something without ever really telling you how. I'm kind of glad I don't have to deal with anything like that anymore, haha.
Oh so cool and also retro like 😋
Thank you ^.^ !
Wow :O Impressive!
It's brilliant! My only small critique is that the story at the start while he's walking to the entrance goes by a little fast. I'm a fast reader and found it flew by. Can't wait to see all the rest of the stuff you're gonna do! :)
