Game is an activity or sport which people or group of people or team engage in to compete against each other with rules and regulations binding them.
Before the evolution of technology and even with the evolution of technology there are different games that were played without a computer or phone. For instance hunting is a game, race, childhood games, cards etc.
Let take a look at our childhood days anyone who grew up in Nigeria can never forget his or her childhood games and will sometimes wish to be young again to participate in them. Nigeria has the best childhood games to my best of knowledge especially for kids who grew up where lot of other children were. From ten-ten, suwee, boju-boju, street football, fire on the mountain, skipping rope, Tinko-tinko, who is in the garden, Ayo olopon, and so on and so forth.
Tinko-tinko:
This game was one of my favorite childhood game it involves smartness and accuracy. In this game a lit of clapping happens. The game is been played in pairs it involves two players facing each other. The game goes on while singing “tinko-tinko tinkoroko tinko" must of us will understand the sound better. The song is sang by each player it energizes them, it is just like the sound at the background of our modern day computer game which makes it more interesting while playing.
The game is played by raising the hands half way up it involves interchanging of the hands front and back by slamming of hand and also by counting the number of times you were able to interchange the hands. The losser is the person that quit first or that makes mistake in the slamming of hands.
Boju-boju:
Known as hide and seek, the players should be at least five to make it an interesting one. One of the player will be the one to look for the other players who has gone into hiding each of them hides where they believe that the seeker cannot find them. Before the game begins the seeker will have to sing
- boju boju ooo
Oloro nbo ooo
Epa ra mo ooo
Se kinsi*
Meaning that my eyes are close should I open it, am coming for you, hide yourself, should I open my eyes, then the others reply with “sii” meaning open your eyes. The song is to let them know that he his coming. After singing he starts to look for them anyone he/she catches first will be the next to seek. Every seeker Start’s his or hers chase with singing.
Ten-ten:
This childhood game is mostly played by girls. In this game the girls starts by facing each other, the game is played by clapping and moving of the legs to the sound of the song, which goes like this “ten ten ten ten ten ten ten" continuously till the end if the game. The aim of the game is to ensure that while moving and singing each player those not bring out the same leg at the end of the song which means when a girl brings out a left leg the other will bring out the right one contrary to this, one of the girls scores a point against the other.
These are one of the games that made our childhood days memorable.
Haha! I love this post It made me remember my childhood memories. "Tinko tinko" was my favourite childhood games then. Nice post!
