Point & click adventure games have always been my favorite genre of games, so ScummVM is one of the most interesting open source projects I have seen in my life.
It allows you to play a huge number of old point & click adventures games on modern computers and a plethora of different platforms. Not just Windows, Linux and macOS are supported, but also tons of handheld devices, smartphones, consoles and so on.
Today, Version 2.0 of ScummVM got released and with it comes support for 23 new games, including a bunch of old Sierra adventures like Phantasmagoria 1 & 2, Gabriel Knight 1 & 2 and many more. You can see the full list of new titles in the screenshot below.
You can download the new version here for free, or read the release announcement here.
This is pretty awesome! Those old Sierra games are some of my favorites. I think I even still have a few of the best on cd. I'll give this a try!
I still have some LucasArts and Sierra games on floppy disks :) I think Monkey Island came on something like 11 floppy disks for the Commodore Amiga 500, they even joked about the amount of floppy disks in the game. Completely useless today (my computer doesn't even have a CD drive, much less a floppy drive), but they were the first games I played as a kid, hard to throw away.
Awesome, I didn't even know this was still in active development! Thanks
Hopefully they'll never stop, I still play a lot of these old games once in a while. There are remastered editions for some of them now, but they will stop working on modern computers at some point so hopefully then ScummVM will make those work again as well :)
Every couple of years I dust off one or two of them too. Awesome
