I'm more ambiguous on this subject. It is entirely possible that video games can contribute to a type of stagnation of in social life can be definitely noted. But I do feel sometimes that people tend to overlook the communities that often surround these games and other similar recreational activities. It gives them a sense of belonging and provides them with a means to experience life with the great aide of companionship. Moreover games also allows individuals exercise problem solving skills, as well as other soft skills, in a way that few other mediums allow. That being said I do acknowledge that there is some types of reward loops in some games that results in extremely detrimental forms of addiction
