RE: Has Easy Of Information Degraded Gaming And Critical Thinking Within Them?

in #gaming7 years ago (edited)

When I play any game, I try to play with this process as much as possible:

We actually had to go into boss fights and take notes, fail, discuss among our self how to improve and repeat this process till we won.

Since I don't have a lot of time like when I was younger, there's a point in each game where I look for the solution online, but I try to make that my last solution: I won't improve if I don't rely on myself!!

Well, some people like winning, but I just like "trying" new things.

I'm playing Etrian Oddessy series lately (on 2DS,) and it's one of the games that made me truly enjoy the failure. Really wish I saw the post earlier~

By the way, I really hate "Everyone is the same" too, if I'm playing online I want to fight unlinited amounts of play-styles you can't find in programmed enemies, but if everyone is the same online why not play a single player game (my MMO experience isn't long though, I don't know the current trends.)

Sort:

Some seem to be taking winning to a whole new level. While I’ll admit spending way too many hours playing video games when I was a teenager some of these people are just crazy. 72+ hour gaming sessions, abusing a certain substance to maintain focus, and cheating/exploiting by any means.

Many gamers are trying to compete at a level I just say to myself “nope, not worth it.” I enjoy a few online games but I’ve given up trying land in top ranking long time ago. While I can be rather completive I try and not give into that side of myself. Always sad when these people realize just a little too late that they can cause themselves quite a lot of harm by pushing so hard every day.

Far too many games that seem like they should have been single player are made into MMOs or another online type of games. I’m not sure if it’s simply due to lack of inflation on the price of a game. Perhaps leaving so many developers finding other ways to generate revenue: cash shops, subs, and account services. I also wonder just how many are overspending trying to maintain that triple AAA spotlight and be that best new thing that fades after two months.

In some ways, I preferred the old days. I could play a single online game for years on end with friends and we did just that. Nowadays everyone just running around like headless chickens playing things for a couple of nights and then off onto the next cookie cutter game where they play cookie cutter builds. Part of it is easy to explain when communities have become so great at creating a single overpowered build for a class. Many developers seem to underestimate there player base in how they will interact with gear and skills. Hard to argue being different if it means having 20% lower damage, health, clear speed than others. Which can be disappointing when people rejected those who are not playing the number build.

I hope you enjoy Etrian Oddessy. I’ve never owned a 2DS. I think my last non-computer gaming device was the PlayStation II. It’s been a while. For myself I’ll be getting back into Path of Exile more in the coming weeks or next month. We should be having a friendly little racing competition on steemit for Path of Exile with some prizes when the next league start. Have a wonderful week.

The sad truth:

I also wonder just how many are overspending trying to maintain that triple AAA spotlight and be that best new thing that fades after two months.

Hmmm...

Many developers seem to underestimate there player base in how they will interact with gear and skills. Hard to argue being different if it means having 20% lower damage, health, clear speed than others.

I heard a developer advice, is that "if you find your players using one overpowered part of your game, don't patch it right away, give it at least few weeks. Players might find a counter measure to it at that time and it might not be that overpowered after all."

I think that's part of what makes any game good, but at the same time I hope people try to think of their individual skills when "borrowing" this month strongest build.

Some times I think they let things be OP on purpose. New class came out that you get with DLC and somehow every time it was the new OP thing for many games.

Other times, they seem to just adjust lower place classes or styles hoping to attacked a more balance between the community that sometimes lead things to being way more powerful just to attempt that.

Balancing always looks like an interesting issue. It can be a way to shake up players base's lack of diversity in it while also encouraging sales.

Always great when players find something in a way that was not intended but is not also consider an exploit either. I've seen in some games like Diablo III some times they leave that situation that lead to something being overpower in for season other times they try and remove in a short time span if.
