So I am part of EMA ( Electronic Music Alliance ) on of the things we are planning to do is to not only have a presence in the crypto and legacy media space but also on platforms like second life. I, her royal pieness, will be building headquarters, a media hub and virtual performance space on the second life platform. We might even be broadcasting radio there and holding movie nights where some of us can show our videos and movies off.
So what is second life you might be asking yourself, well it is the oldest functional virtual reality platform on the net. But it is also a lot more to many people. While the popularity of the platform has waned a bit since it’s debut 15 years ago it still holds a active community of about a million users. people go there for many reasons some to exhibit their art in virtual galleries, some to live out their sexual fantasies in virtual space, There are role playing worlds such as the post apocalyptic wastelands where people pretend to live a life after you guessed it- the apocalypse. You have sci-fi worlds, independent ones , star wars, firefly , star trek where people live. There are worlds that function like multiplayer games with rules, death, weapons. There are femdom worlds where men are sexual slaves, BDSM worlds with mostly female slaves, there is a huge Gorian community with a series of interconnected worlds. There are people playing family in suburban towns, people who live lives as animals, vampires, fairies, witches, grownups reliving a childhood with parents, you have virtual clubs, sports events. Some people who go there are terminally ill , or severely disabled, Second Life gives them an outlet to live a life they cannot in the real world. You can sail boats in Second life, ride horses and you can fly :D You have schools and university’s that have a presence, places where classes are given, virtual churches, temples. even the church of satan is present as well as the catholic church - you name it second life probably has it. second life has it’s own crypto currency you buy your items, pay rent for parcels and worlds (if you choose to own one ), clothing , hair and body parts with it. I personally went to second life to build worlds and stayed for the people I met on the way.
I will not lie there is somewhat of a learning curve but it really is worth it to stick with it, there is just so much to discover. Second life is free you do not have to pay anything to be there but I will admit that most of us put some money in pimping out our avatars because the basic avis suck and having motion captured animations really amps up your game. In the end it is up to you how far you want to go or if you want to do anything with your avatar at all. This is mine Alexvonstreer (I was stupid enough to use part of my real name when I signed up - don’t do that -LOL) aka Raziel de Lioncourt (display name). I did some upgrading on her. You originally come to second life avi that moves a bit like a zombie or a lobotomised lamb, but there are fixes for that, you can buy motion captured animations which range from basic cheap but good to really awsome a bit more costly versions. Raziel also has a mesh head you have simple versions that are cheaper that look good but cannot be altered, and one like mine that is bento mesh that you can alter to give it unique facial features. (or you can buy ready made templates for a few pennies if you are scared to screw around). She has custom eyes and ears and a mesh body that replaces the standard body you get. I really cannot recommend not upgrading but then i have more clothes than god as well as hair ect. The next way to customise your avi is to buy a skin that will further individualise your avi you can find anything from human to robot ect ect. Every shade is available, freckles , scars tattoos you name it someone most likely made it. Secondlife has a huge economy and it is the community that builds and makes the stuff not the parent company. Like Barbie's Ken your male avi comes without the junk but you can buy that as well if you need it ;) . Just a tip not all males are male in RL not all females female ;)
Here another shot of my avi in the library of my laboratory :D and yes of course there is pie! What did you think ;)
So now you made your avi at the main websitethe next thing you do is download the viewer which you will use to log in and play on. In the beginning you will be using the company made viewer but if you are tech savvy I would recommend to upgrade to the free user made firestorm viewer or eventually if you need to learn a bit first. at first login they will send you to a welcome island these have tutorial that will teach you to navigate the platform. If you rather learn through youtube there are a ton of tutorials that will teach you anything from how to create an avi >
How to tweak it >
movement >
to how to build >
As I mentioned before I have a mesh head to replace the standard avi this is how that works >
And I have a maitrya body like this one (they have ones for males from different companies too)
you can by stuff for the platform by either going to stores in world or to the website marketplace most things cost something but there is a ton of free stuff you can get on the website as well (ranging from crappy to great -it's all trial and error). Your items will be sent directly into the inventory of your avatar.
The makers of Second Life Linden Labs also has its own Youtube with tons of videos)
Once you have your avi hit me up so I can give a you a place to set your home point away from the riff raff.
So what is the plan for EMa in Second Life -
Well as I said in the opening we will be making a spiffy headquarters with all the mentioned perks plus a few mor. For this I will be renting land and hopefully getting help with the costs from our crew as this will determine what we will be able to do. We will start smallish to mid sized and expand once we gain traction :D I really hope to see you guys there it will be a blas and just give us an extra fun edge :)

Cool idea, resteemed!
Second Life sounds so fascinating to read about, though I’m not sure about experiencing it myself. I wonder what aspects of it do you like the most? ^_^
Congrats for your curie vote, tyger x2 :).
Thank you :) and I still love to build worlds there :) but I also love that it isn't just one thing :)

I really need to check this out again, especially if there will be an EMA presence on there =)
How much hard disk space is needed?
Thanks for the awesome explanation about Second Life! I had never heard of it until you started talking about it in the EMA Discord but sounds like a pretty cool concept :) Keep us all in the loop about it your royal pieness :D

Wow, I had forgotten all about Second Life.
I haven't been in there for 10+ years. I must track down my account details again. I think I might have been Pennsif there as well...
yay let me know when you are there :)
