Valve takes action to combat fake games that distribute achievements

in #games7 years ago

Valve had already taken steps to combat fake games that only exist to distribute trading cards. Meanwhile, the company is ready to apply the same measures to games that apparently only exist to give away achievements easily.

Valve states in an internal message that it is going to use its algorithm to assess whether a game is played by real people and not by bots. After the restrictions were applied to trading cards, the company saw a switch to achievements. Some games have thousands of achievements and distribute them very easily.

If the Steam algorithm suspects that a game exists only for the farming of achievements, several measures are taken.
Players can reach a maximum of 100 achievements,
these achievements do not count in the achievement showcase on their profile,
the game does not count in the total library content of users,
the game can not be shown in the game showcase
and no vouchers can be distributed for it.

It is weird because these extra achievements give no real practical benefit Achievements only targets the achievement-teller on a Steam-profile and does not deliver trading cards or anything similar, which can be sold for credit in the Steam Store
