As it is always said "nothing lasts forever" so it is in technology and, as Nintendo did with the Wii U previously, Sony put an end to the Play Station 3 (PS3) shipments in 2017. What has been the third console Japanese game was the one that led to the birth of mythical games for PlayStation, so it is worth remembering what the best games were for PS3.
The PS3 was consoled with a particularly long cycle, with more than 10 years of market launching in November 2006. Apparently, PS3 manufacturing will stop, after so much time in distribution there was some regularity in the release of titles, in fact, there is still some unpublished. We review the most successful according to score and sales.
It is clear that we all have our criteria to choose the best. However, there are some sales data that were published and from the Metacritic website (and its own valuations and by part of users), we have tried to make a list with the most important titles that have been released for this desktop console. Do you find yours here? We have selected the 21 that have the best valuation and sales.
1. 'The Last of Us': Joel and Ellie get to love more than anyone
This game of Naughty Dog has not been the best sold with more than 7 million copies sold, but the fight for the survival of Joel, Ellie, and other characters has managed to captivate both users (a note average of 9.2) as to Metacritic's own criticism (95/100). Probably one of the keys of the game has been the interesting mixture of components, that is, the history, the design and the fusion between shooter and stealth game.
2. 'Grand Theft Auto V': the most illegal wins in the most legal way
For Metacritic users, it was notable (8.2) and for the critics, it is (97/100), but what was for Rockstar is a pleasant compensation being the best-selling PS3 after becoming the second most expensive video games ever developed. This installment and the previous one, 'Grand Theft Auto IV', occupy the first positions of games for PS3 as punctuated by the critic.
This adventure, considering its beginnings in 2D in 1997. Set in fictitious cities based on existing ones, such as San Andreas (San Francisco) or Liberty City (New York), the story revolves around criminal gangs, drugs, authorities corrupt and account adjustments from the beginning varying from protagonists and scenarios in each delivery.
3. 'Metal Gear Solid HD Collection': Snake did well to come out of retirement
This time it is not a single game, but the compilation that Konami released with the deliveries 'Metal Gear Solid 2', 'Metal Gear Solid 3' and 'Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker'. The original was released in 1998, initiating a saga that starts from 'Metal Gear' and 'Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake' and with Solid Snake as the protagonist, which has to end its withdrawal to neutralize the nuclear terrorist threat against the Government of the United States.
This compilation is not among the best-selling games, but its fourth installment 'Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots' with more than 6 million titles sold. Very well rated by Metacritic users with an 8.7 and by the members themselves with a 94/100.
4. 'Red Dead Redemption': The Wild West never goes out of style
The adventures of ex-outlaw John Marston to side with the law also pleased the critics and users of Metacritic, with an 8.9 and a 95/100 respectively. It is not in the top 10 of the best sellers (it is around 30th place which is not bad for the total of games available), with about 1.35 million copies sold, but the survival of the antihero among corrupt officials and criminals, the displacements on horseback and the system of morality (which places us on the side of good or evil depending on what we do) turned out to be good to Rockstar.
5. 'Batman: Arkham City': sales went up as the bat-signal
With at least 6 million copies sold, as announced by Warner in 2012, 'Batman Arkham city' is placed among the best sellers (unlike 'Batman: Arkham Asylum'). Thus, this continuation with more weapons, more character and ultimately more action took a 96/100 according to Metacritic and an 8.7 by its users, which is not bad.
6. 'Uncharted 2: Among Thieves': for Naughty Dog Nate was the treasure
The PS3 players who went through Metacritic liked that Nathan Drake followed the trips of Marco Polo and the mysteries that the mythical sailor left unresolved, although more critics than users rating the game 96/100 and an 8, 9 respectively. However, wins in sales 'Uncharted 3: Drake Deception' but "almost", with 6.6 million games sold against 6.5 of 'Uncharted 2'. Along with 'The Last of Us' is another of the most iconic sagas that were born with the PS3.
7. 'Grand Theft Auto IV': corruption and account adjustments sell and much
Again another game of the GTA saga is sneaked into the top ten both by sales and by ratings. In this case, the game exceeded 5 million copies. Nothing bad is in the criticism of users and staff of Metacritic, which give a 7.5 and a 98/100 respectively
8. 'God of War III': Krator's adventure that met the expectations of users and creators
This is among the top ten for being the game that best sold in its version for PS3, with more than 5 million copies. The ratings, however, do not place it among the top 15 in Metacritic, although it does not look bad either, with 92/100 and 8.7 for users.
9. 'BioShock Infinite': third parties sometimes are better
The third part of 'BioShock' receives a better score than this one on Metacritic, with an 8.5 by the users and a 94/100 of the web. This FPS of Irrational Games does not appear in the top 30 best-selling games for PS3, but the rescue of the mysterious Elisabeth by Booker DeWitt in the air-city of Columbia was not bad at all for the Extra Life (a 7, 5) in its version for Xbox 360.
10. 'Gran Turismo 5': the races that more millions of pilots have had
Of the saga of racing games, this is the second best-selling game for PS3 with 11.94 million, breaking records and being the most sold of PS3 in history in February 2011. The 'Gran Turismo 5 Prologue' (previous) and the 'Gran Turismo 6' (later) are also among the best-selling games, with 5.35 and 5.06 million copies respectively. 'GT 5' is also not bad at Metacritic with 7.5 and 84/100.
In 'Gran Turismo 5' the available cars are extended with respect to 'Prologue' to 1.031 and it is the first game of the saga (for PS3) that includes Ferrari cars, as well as the karts, the NASCAR cars, and a circuit editor. In addition, a dynamic meteorological system and transition between day and night were included.
11. 'Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2': the battles went for the best and it was noticed in sales
The sixth installment of this Infinity Ward series is among the best-selling games with about 4.5 million copies (3.5 million in the US, 1 million in the UK and some 245,000 in Japan, although Among the 30 best-selling games are also 'Call of Duty: Black Ops',' Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare 'and' Call of Duty: World at War '.' Modern Warfare 2 'follows the plot five years after' Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 'and with Joseph Allen, James Ramirez and the Gary Roach as protagonists.
In Metacritic, there is a division of opinions between critics and users; with 94/100 and 6.4 respectively (there is more agreement with 'Call of Duty 4', which has the same note according to the critic and an 8.4 for users).
12. 'LittleBigPlanet': content creation merged with story mode sold well and half liked
With more than 4.5 million copies sold, according to Sony in the GamesCom 2010, in Metacritic give a 95/100, although users do not match and does not reach the remarkable, being for them in a 6.8.
13. 'Batman: Arkham Asylum': in spite of the Joker, in the end, the one who has the last laugh is Batman
The game is not among the best selling for PS3, but as we see Rocksteady Studios achieved good grades with a Joker that after escaping from the asylum with the help of Harley Quinn and a Batman that faces many enemies and even toxins. There is nothing bad with a 91/100 and an 8, 9.
14. 'Portal 2': second parts were good, but could sell more
This does not appear among the best sellers of Play Station 3, but we put it here to be fairly well valued by those who have played and have left their testimony. In the portal is very good, above colossus as the 'Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2', with a 95/100 and an 8.5 that leave a mean nothing despicable.
15. 'Heavy Rain': the game with movie airs and million-dollar sales
The opposite is the case in 'Heavy Rain', which is positioned among the best-selling titles with at least 3 million copies sold according to Guillaume de Fondaumière, co-CEO of Quantic Dream. This does not appear, however, among the best value of Metacritic
16. 'Final Fantasy XIII': few fantasies give so many deliveries (and hold the pull)
A saga has to be when it accumulates so many versions, and in particular, this was the fastest sold by Square-Enix, with more than 3 million copies in total and selling 1 million in the United States in the first five days after putting for sale (combining version numbers for Xbox 360 and PS3). Versions that at the time equating enough, and another example of disagreement between numbers and ratings, since it is not among the top 20 score on Metacritic.
17. 'Demon's Souls': millions of players recovering souls
The history of this game places us in the fictional kingdom of Boletaria, sunk in the mist after a dark ritual of its king, where the player is one of the warriors that is killing demons and recovering the souls that these would deliver to "The Elder", a demon with great power.
This action RPG from From Software makes critics and Metacritic users coincide giving it an 8.9 and an 89/100 (almost the same as 'Dark Souls II', although in this case users give it an 8.7), selling according to Forbes about 1.7 million copies (here wins 'Dark Souls', with 1.9 million sold).
18. 'Resistance: Fall of Man': the virus that replaced a war and conquered sales
Another game that we did not find among the best value in the webs or that does not have the popularity of others that we have already mentioned is this, which nevertheless surpassed the 4.7 million copies sold globally. It is a first-person shooter that Insomniac Games developed exclusively for PlayStation 3.
19. 'Mass Effect 2': the Sheppard effect is what came to the stores
We did not find it in the best-selling lists but it was said that it was taken from the hands of the physical store workers. Metacritic gave the game a 94/100 and its users an 8.5, shows that the game, figures apart, seems to like (or have liked).
20. 'Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of destruction': uniting a lynx and a robot gave good results
In Metacritic they liked the proposal of Insomniac games, rating the game 8.8 and an 89/100. Also among the most sold (1.25 million copies), this was the first installment of the adventures of Ratchet and the robot Clank, with two continuations of which the third, 'Ratchet & Clank: Armed to the Teeth', also liked in Metacritic (with an 8.9 and an 87/100).
21. 'Street Fighter IV': the most mythical street fights
If we talk about sagas someone may miss one that was forged at the time of the arcade, but whose titles have been postponed in the next generations of video game consoles. The PS3 also got the dose of these historical digital street fights and it seems 'Street Fighter IV' broke records of speed in sales. It does not appear in the best sellers in history, but the users who value in Metacritic give it a 7.3, which is not bad, and the criticism does give the outstanding with a 93/100.
