Wellington said, "The battle of Waterloo was won on the playground of Eton."
It means that Games are necessary for physical power. But it is also a famous maxim that A sound mind in a sound body. It means that games are very necessary for mental power also. But in fact games aim at the harmonious development of the personality or character of man.
The games make us couirageous. In games sometimes we win and sometimes we are defeated. The games enable us not to puff up on our victory and not to be nervous in defeat. They also teach us to have self control.
The players play in the team of four, five or ten. In the field they work together. they have a common aim to win the game. So they work with the team spirit. They think it their joint responsibility. They work hard from the beginning upto the end with mutual co operation.
The games teach us the sportsman spirit also. It means fair play and no favour. In the field two opposite parties play. No doubt they are opponents but neither of them has ill feelings for another. Fellow feeling are developed among them. A true sportsman spirit consists in playing a losing game with patience.
Discipline in life is the key to success. A disciplined army wins the battle. A disciplined team wins the game. Disciplined students make progress in their life. If there is discipline among workers, production will be more. discipline means to follow certain rules and to work according to them. A player folloes the rules fo game and obeys his commander. Thus games teach us discipline.
The most important thing is that the games help in our physical and mental development. If we play regularly, our muscles will be active and our body will work well. We shall be active throughout the day. We shall be able to work whole the day and will take interest in every work. This is the key to success.
