When it comes to fairness, first-generation online casinos would typically use random number generators (RNGs) to generate game results in a way that could not be predicted in advance by the house.
However, RNGs have since been replaced by more advanced systems that make playing at casinos a much safer experience. With that in mind, let’s examine the status quo, and take a look at what BetHash is doing to move the industry forward.
The Problem With Provably Fair
After RNG’s, online casinos instead began adopting a technology known as ‘provably fair’, which is essentially a system that allows the casino to prove that a result was not determined in advance, and was unknown to the casino.
For most provably fair systems, the casino website uses three different variables, known as the server seed, client seed, and the nonce in order to calculate the result of a game. This result could then be checked using an external verifier tool to ensure that the result is as expected.
However, though the provably fair system was certainly a step in the right direction, there still remains the possibility that the online casino could either manipulate the server seed or rig the entire probably fair system such that the results generated are not as random as they might first appear.
As a result, there have been dozens of accusations against provably fair casinos, with disgruntled players making the case that they have been swindled by the platform. As such, although provably fair is certainly better than nothing, it is doesn’t go far enough in assuring players that they are dealing with a trustworthy establishment.
The BetHash Way
BetHash, on the other hand, takes a step beyond the provably fair system to draw results in a way that is indisputably fair. Rather than using the three-seed system common to provably fair casinos, BetHash instead uses the decentralized EOS network to produce game results in a completely fair way,—this completely eliminates the possibility of results manipulation.
The EOS network is secured by a cluster of 21 block producers. As their name implies, these block producers are tasked with producing blocks on EOS, these blocks contain confirmed transactions. By using the randomly generated transaction hash associated with each block and assigning each alphanumeric value to a game outcome, it is possible to produce game results in a way that is practically impossible to tamper with.
It should be noted that each block producer is voted into position by the EOS community, with underperforming block producers being replaced on a regular basis. Because of this, it would be an extremely challenging task to manipulate the actions of even one block producer, let alone the 11 that would be required to alter even a single block.
As a satoshi-style casino, we believe that all results be traceable in the blockchain. As such, every game result for every round that has ever been played on BetHash can be double-checked against the blockchain, ensuring all our players can be absolutely certain that we are playing fair, and always have done.
