Real Madrid took a big step forward to defend their UEFA Champions League title after beating PSG 3-1 at the Santiago Bernabéu in the first leg of the round of 16 tie. The French team will have a tough challenge considering that they will not have Neymar, who will miss the match after undergoing surgery for an injury to his ankle.

Playing in Paris should not bring very good memories to Real Madrid, as they have never won in that city in the three matches they have previously played in European competitions (E2, P1).

PSG are in a streak of four consecutive victories (in all competitions) after their defeat at the Bernabéu. They are in the top of Ligue 1 with 14 points of advantage over their closest pursuers, Monaco, so they will concentrate all their efforts in this match.

After scoring six victories in their last seven games in all competitions, Real Madrid will look to maintain the 3-1 lead obtained in the first leg now that the return will be played at Parc des Princes. They are third in LaLiga (LL) and no longer have real chances to fight for the title, but also come from a defeat by 0-1 against the Spanish last Tuesday in his last game as a visitor.

During the UEFA Cup in the 1992-93 season, PSG also lost 3-1 at the Bernabeu but then advanced to the next stage after winning the return match 4-1 on home soil. Can they repeat a result like that?
Players to watch: PSG's Uruguayan striker, Edinson Cavani, is in great shape this season. He has six goals and one assist in the CL, although he has also scored six goals in his last seven matches in all competitions.

Cavani will face off against Real Madrid's leading striker Cristiano Ronaldo, who has scored an impressive 14 goals in his last eight games in all competitions.

Statistics to consider: PSG have only lost one of their last 27 home games in the CL, and have scored at least three goals in five of their last six games at the Parc des Princes.

Real Madrid do not know of defeats in their last three matches on French soil in the CL (G2, E1) and they have also only lost two of their last 26 matches in European competitions.

With Cristiano Ronaldo inspired, I do not think Real Madrid will eliminate him from the PSG of the Champiosn League.
