It had taken him 2 hours to get to the front of the line at the border.
He flew across borders all the time. This should have been easy. Canada is our friend, our ally, the ‘cool’ brother. (You see what I did there, ‘cool’, ‘colder’, get it? ;-)
Border Guard: “How long will you be staying in Canada?”
My dear Hubby: “Just the day.”
Border Guard: “What is the reason for your visit to Canada?”
My dear Hubby: “To go to a motor vehicles auction in Chilly-wack.”
Border Guard: “Park your vehicle in that lot and see the guard at the desk.”
At the desk…
Border Guard: “Please show me your passport and tell me why you want to visit Canada.”My dear Hubby: “To go to a motor vehicles auction in Chilly-wack. Is there something wrong with Chilly-wack?”
Dearest Hubby hands over his passport and the guard looks at it, looks at his computer, looks at it, looks at his computer…
Border Guard: “Do you have any drugs on you or in your car that you don’t have a prescription for?”
My dear Hubby: “Uhhh… No.”
Border Guard: “Are you planning on purchasing any drugs while you are in Canada?”
My dear Hubby: “No. Why?”
Border Guard: “Parts of Chilliwack are having some problems with drug trafficking… Does your wife know you are here?
My dear Hubby: “What ?!? Yes.”
Border Guard: “Do you mind if I call her?”
Evidently the border guards were bored that day and the drug dog needed some exercise.
The next time he went to Canada I gave him a note. True story.
Ah yes, "The Epic of Chilliwack"! I remember that story well!
Still makes me laugh. He's stopped actively scheming against the boarder guards (big relief!) but occasionally he sees something on TV that inspires a new plot.
That's so funny! So did they call? lol. I've had cops pull us over out of boredom. I once lived in a super rural small town where the worst crime was drunk college students passing out in the wrong car (people didn't lock their cars because it was such a safe city). Cops bugged you for stupid reasons when they were bored.
Doug got away with whatever without them calling me but for sometime afterward he plotted getting away with something ingenious to cross the border with. He ended up not trying. Perhaps too lazy to actually carry out all the prep work required to carry the machinations out.
