I just came across this old collection of photos that I took back when I lived in Austin Texas in the year 2000. I admittedly was really wasted, but was having a great time on 6th street. Sorry the image quality isn't fantastic, but hey - these were taken on a crappy low res 1st generation digital camera.
I hope you this flashback to the good ol days in Austin!
I wish you could have seen this in real life, as the picture doesn't do it justice. I still can't figure out what these girls were trying to do.
Anyone who lived in Austin in these days will know about Leslie Cochran, AKA "The Hungry Broke Desperate Dude" that used to hang out all over town. He apparently rode his bike across the country back in 1996 and decided to stay in Austin. Although very eccentric, he was a super nice guy. Unfortunately he was killed by some druggies after confronting them about the dangers of drug abuse. RIP Leslie! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leslie_Cochran
Below is my buddy Felipe encountering the Grim Reaper himself!
This dude was really cracking me up. A+ for effort.
Now that's one heck of a mashup.
LOL! This guy...
Felipe and I.. This is me doing a pre-social media selfie pretending to not be taking the photo.
These kids are way too gangsta to dress up.. Or maybe they actually are in costume?
Superman is not impressed by Thor.
I don't know why my camera aim was so bad that night.
I'm not sure what I was being.. A redneck? A carpenter? I know one thing I was - Drunk!
These guys might be barking up the wrong tree. I'm not sure what the Hef would have thought!
The ghost buster guys were BY FAR my favorite that night. These dudes weren't playing around. Look at the sweat on that guy's face. They were hardcore in character for the whole night.
Yet another bad camera aim.. What is wrong with me?
I'm not sure what would happen if you got colonel Sanders together with Pinhead. Probably best not to know.
I will leave you with these girls. We were chatting up the one on the left, but I cannot remember anything beyond this point.
Eventually they walked away from us and my camera aim failed again. Oh well, what can you do.
@nuthman
Looks like fun
Yep.. ah how do I miss my early 20s.
Your artikel very good
It.s amazing
I think YOU are amazing.
A little too late... but yeah, I was there, too. Keep Austin Weird!
Leslie the transvestite flower seller... he even ran for city council, or maybe it was mayor; I forget. Once you saw Leslie in a thong and hooker heels, it was something you just could never unsee...
Good times, good times...
I moved away in 2006; I'm told it's getting to be more and more "just another big city..."
haha, yeah man. The first time I saw Leslie was around 1996 I think when I first moved there.
I was working at Dell on the north side of town and I always passed by this particular Albertson's grocery store on the way to work. Leslie had his little bicycle cart thing set up out there with the text "Hungry, Broke, Desperate dude" stenciled on the side. I saw him every day with his long hair, various bikinis and stilettos every day.
One day I went into Albertson's just to talk to him. I just had to. That day he had a giant sign that read "Alberson's Unfair!". I can't remember why, something about them trying to run him off the parking lot. I walked up to him and said hi, then asked the time. He was so normal that it made it hilarious. He's was like "Oh, yeah man - it's like 3:30pm."
I guess I expected a girly voice or something but he was a total dude. Damn shame what happened to him.
It's also a shame what has happened to Austin. I guess too many people figured out it was a cool place to be and ruined it.
