Well, there's no sense spending big money on an art production suite right off the bat. Google "best free art programs" and have a look at what's available for free. Be prepared to spend a lot of time working on it. Never worry about what others are going to think of you or your art, just go for it. Finally, my last bit of advice... add some personality to your posts. Don't be afraid to stand out.

Painting is great and there are many artists here who breakdown how they did certain things and why. Some very helpful people.

Yup. Just select the art tag on the right hand side when you're out browsing the feeds and look for the artists.
