I can pretty much see that Steemit looks like a go-nowhere proposition for any blogger with any real story to tell and tons of content to deliver. The only reason I put up with it is because one of my blogging topics is almost universally unpopular, and so I use this as a kind of "letting off steam" outlet, (no pun originally intended, but enjoying the pun now that it's happened). So I decided to only post blog material was that was kind of already a marketing fail anyway. In that sense, as long as my account goes up by one percent a day, starting from one single cent, then I'm having fun with the concept. But I view it like penny stocks, or slot machines, or scratchers, or any other desperate thing I tried, as a 99% chance of not getting a cent. (But, I do take one part of your advice seriously. There is no way on the world I'm going to actually pay for Steem when the thing obviously is going to be totally dominated by computer geeks and cryto-currency geeks who just have a hundred times more moves and more power than creative writers who just want to blog and read and like things. Yeah, so I'm with you in that I would warn away anyone from spending even one single cent on this scheme, and I would warn away anyone who had their heart set on any serious payout ever. For me, this is just a kind of "house wins 99% of the time" sort of casino, with no serious plan and no serious proposition for people like me. Again, like in a casino, those card experts who devote their life to card games — yeah, they might really win something; but a kind of semi-sleepy guy like me that won't do a thousand pages of study on how to max out every strategy? — yeah, I figure we'll just get blown out of the game at any old point, just like with penny stocks, or slot machines, or multi-level-marketing, or whatever. That stuff could all work for major operators with major cash and major experience and tons of study, but now for kind of semi-flaky, semi-retired, dreamer-creative-writer, preachy-essay people like me. So, it's kind of like a woman or man one dates once a month, or even once a week, knowing they're gone as soon as someone really hot or someone with money shows up. If it's okay that the whole game comes to zero at any old point in time, then it's all good, just for laughs and fun and for kind of fantasy — yeah, this is like a fantasy gambit, like looking for dates on craigslist when you know 99% of the folks on there are 300 pounds or whatever. But, you know, twice in my life I got dates with really amazing people one there — twice ever, after years of playing and dreaming, mind you. So, given all of the kinds of sleazy and lost contexts I just mentioned — in that sense, I'm totally cool with Steemit. Beyond that, I have no really real theory.
Just for instance, I like that fact that I made an extra cent once just for liking a thing I just posted talking about how hopeless my posts are, especially since I won't use bots, or cut-and-paste, or any of that stuff. But just do all of Steemit in this kind of innocent, naïve, silly-putty, sand-box, playing-around kind of way. That in itself is conceptually amusing. And since I'm already a penniless guy who won't invest one single cent of his own few remaining pennies on anything but food and beverages and transit fare, (or maybe a hotel room), then, you know, it's all good. I'd feel sorry for any hard-working sincere person who thought this was a path to some sort of better life. But, as it stands, I've kind of almost given up on "finally scoring big" in any arena. So, as kind of a past-his-prime goof-off, this game is just okay. If I'm bored I'll do it. If I have serious stuff to take care of at the time, I'll blow it off totally.
