WHEN YOU REALLY NEED UPVOTES, FOLLOWERS, RE-STEEMS AND DONATIONS

When I wrote yesterday about things here on Steemit that make you go 'meh'. That elicited quite some reactions, (thanks for that video @steemmeupscotty), so I will elaborate here a bit today. The thing that might be most annoying on Steem I think is begging.

When you ask someone to follow you, you are begging. When asking for an upvote, you are begging. When you request a re-steem, you are begging. When you are in a really difficult situation and you ask for the Steem community's help, you are begging. But that's ok.

There is nothing wrong with begging. Deep down there is a beggar in all of us. We all like to get heard, we all want to be noticed, we all want to share our thoughts and emotions, we all crave to have some influence and we all need love. On Steem, that love comes in the form of upvotes, re-steems, follows and comments.

But if you want to really feel the love that the Steem community can give you, you cannot simply directly ask for it. That's just doing it wrong. If you do that anyway, you can expect people to get annoyed. Don't expect to receive the love without giving anything first. Spread the love and you will receive it. Give freely and expect nothing in return. Have a mindset to contribute to the platform, instead of thinking what rewards this wonderful platform can bring to you.

It may take some time to develop that mindset, it can be strange. So, if you would like to beg in the meantime, feel free to do so, but at least be creative about it. Here's some ideas for you:

One last thing. Whatever you do, do not lie. Begging or asking for favors is one thing, but doing so by misrepresenting facts, inventing sob stories, having cancer today, your pet died yesterday and your house burned to the ground tomorrow when it really never happended is just wrong. No one appreciates a scam. Keep Steemit clean and scam-free. Please.
