I remember moving brick when I moved mom from the old house to a ranch house. We HAD to save every last brick. Granted we did not have as many as you had BUT... I think it is the culture. Some folks are thrifty because they went without as children and then they go the other extreme and hoard. The old timers knew the value of a dime or dollar and did not waste it. I get it completely.
