The Daily Steem Poll Question for the day is:
What is your favorite Sci-Fi movie?
This is too hard. So, I'm going with favorite under-rated/recent scifi movie.
Jupiter Ascending.
I'm totally with you on this. Jupiter Ascending and Psycho-Pass were my biggest disappointments of that year. But still they were leagues ahead of the rest of the releases. IMHO Jupiter Ascending is better than anything MCU has ever released except for Age of Ultron. Very unique and interesting and also takes some really great risks instead of going the easy cliche path (Like making the main character some orphan living alone, Deus Ex Machina, Mary Sue etc.)
Serenity
I love the TV show Firefly which this is based on too - cowboys in space... horses, bar fights spaceships... what's not to like!
I've heard great things about Firefly but never got around to watching it!
The Fifth Element
I love that movie too!
!luc besson, yes got to be one of the best for me too, for the " esthetique" and vision of our society in the future far away !!
This was really good. I remember watching this with my Dad when I was young.
I like so many SciFi movies. I would have to go with the "Star Wars" series of movies.
Of the single SciFi movies, I would have to say "Fifth Element".
Good survey question,
Steem on,
Mike
1 - Transcendence
2 - Independence Day
3 - Avatar (James Cameron)
Future Question - "What is your favorite song released in the last 10 years?"
There was something about Blade Runner that defined Sci-fi for me. Of course, Star Wars, Star Trek and Matrix series are always pretty killer! :)
I'll have to go with a classic favorite of mine: Iron Giant.
Such a good movie.
The Day the Earth Stood Still (1951)
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0043456/
They don't make em like that any more :)
I am going to go with "The Matrix". Its a classic; still very hard to beat :)
The Matrix was great. I'm going to go with Aliens.
Total Recall! I do like The Matrix though. It's kinda hard to pick.
This is a tight run between Logan's Run and Silent Running. OK, I will run with Logan :)
My proposal is related to this question:
What SciFi series that is airing NOW and is a SPACE OPERA is the best (to watch) in your opinion?
I am completely out of the loop. I don't even know if there are recent Space Opera series. It looks like everybody is in fantasy and zombies. So boring and predictable.
Avatar!!! Star Wars! Surprised that no one mentioned Red Dwarf drama series though
Red Dwarf series and books are brilliant.
Reminder:
Please remember to suggest ideas for future topics if you have a good idea for a new Daily Steem Poll question! :)
I am not big on sci-fy, however, this is a great idea, in the future, I would like you to ask about shows on Netflix that are fun for binge watchers. ;) Just because I need to find something new to watch. :)
"What is your favorite Netflix show to binge watch?" I think will be tomorrow's question :) Great idea!
Excellent, I need ideas, I will stay tuned.
Great idea
Star Wars - all of them except the latest. Future poll suggestion - Should we stop saying "Steemers" , and what to replace it with.
Someone actually already did a post on that. I think "Steemians" won :)
I have a mental toss up between Fortress and the original Total Recall
Lady in the Water. Brazil, City of Ember, 5th Element, and Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome are all close runners up.
What about Mad Max:Fury road? It was my favorite movie of the year and I'm one of the people who hate Diesel punk, Post-apocalyptic dessert stuff.
Fury Road was okay ... but Beyond Thunderdome was a far better film, in my opinion. The special effects weren't as good, but everything else about it (characters, writing, etc.) was way better.
My science fiction film Avatar and is independence day, Prometheus, naval battle, Gerra worlds in that order thanks for the question
2001: A Space Odyssey and Blade Runner.
Brazil (1985) by Terry Gilliam, fave film no matter what genre - it does the brilliant thing of being about some other time, but also being completely about the mid-eighties in Britain.
It's hard to pick a favourite. I see 5th Element getting some love here and I really like it too. I'm going to say Silent Running as it's had a lasting effect on me.
Honourable mentions to Close Encounters of the Third Kind, Star Wars, Dark Star
Lucy!!!! love that movie.
@timcliff An idea for a topic hitting close to home: is it acceptable for woman to propose marriage to men and should it be done with a ring?
Interesting question. Thanks :)
12 monkeys and i like the netflix idea purely to see what shows we dont get in Australia
The Matrix, Ex Machina, Interstellar, and Alien are my favorite sci-fi movies.
However, I much prefer Sci-Fi books to Sci-Fi movies. Ender's Game, Dune, Slaughterhouse Five, Foundation, Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, Sphere, Andromeda Strain....brilliant books that didn't translate well to the screen. I prefer to read it and picture it in my head, and think in general movies do a poor job of replicating science that doesn't exist.
However, the fantasy genre translates very well to the screen. Lord of the Rings, Game of Thrones, Stranger Things, etc. Costume design > replicating non-existent technology I suppose
Right on :) Ender's Game is my favorite book!
Post included in: Steemprentice spotlight #3 - Steemit Mentors and Mentees helping everyone steem better!
Awesome, thanks!
You are most welcome! :)
Well it is pretty old but i think to this day
Dune
remains my favorite all time. Frank Herbert really is a genius. Although you obviously have to read the books as well. For me it would have to be "Blade Runner"
Gotta be The Matrix trilogy by a street!
Impossible to choose only one.
blade runner, star wars, 5th element, matrix
total recall, district 9, ghost in the shell
