Lovely story. I am happy for Catherine. It reminds me of a series of Black Adder... a Christmas Carol. A good guy always giving away to those in need (even if they pretend to be in need).. the 3 ghosts come and show him also the figure (he will not be rewarded for his goodness), he changes... he sends all the abusers profiteering of him away.
Next the Queen and king visit him, they heard about his kindness. He believes they are scam too and insults them (so no Royal reward).

Love to hear another storyline, I know there always will be another versions. Your version seems to be perfect with more perfection.
