Clouds. Puffy and white, they slid across the sky at an odd angle. No, she was at an odd angle. Kira tried to turn her head, but intense pain brought her to a stop. Where was she? She tried to gather her thoughts, but her mind simply spun in a dizzying circle.
"This way!"
The call came from Kira's right, but there was no one she could see in her limited view. She wondered who would be out here in the middle of...where was she again?
"There's debris here! Follow!"
She stared up at the sky, trying to focus her thoughts. Clouds. So fluffy and white. Wait, she was supposed to be doing something. Something important. She tried to move and pain blossomed through her neck and shoulders.
The crunch of dried leaves and the snapping of twigs announced the arrival of someone, several someones, and Kira struggled to see who had come. She hadn't been expecting visitors. She should get them some coffee. She tried to sit up and a wave of dizziness washed over her, followed by intense nausea.
"I see you're still alive."
The voice was familiar, yet she couldn't remember who it belonged to. A deep, rumbling baritone, it pierced through her muddled thoughts and awoke a fear within her. Had she been able to move, she would have been scrambling to get away.
"No coffee for you," she said, her voice oddly raspy.
Something hard jabbed into her side and her breath caught as pain wracked her body. Her vision blurred, then began to darken as consciousness began to slip away from her.
"Clouds... Soft, fluffy white clouds," she mumbled as she stared at the sky.
"Get her back to the compound. I've invested too much in this one to allow her to die."
