“Thanks Mom. Of course I needed more.”

She’d been been upset to see my kids drinking out of jars.

“Didn’t I give you glasses last time I came? What happened to the plastic ones? And the mugs? The ones that look like Star Wars memorabilia?

“Are you saving them for a special occasion? Are you hiding them? Why are you drinking out of jars?”

The questions were the same each and every visit. The “I’m here to visit you” gift always the same. Glasses, glasses, and more sip-ware.

Her annoyance is enough to make me annoyed.

I don’t know where the lids are. Yes, I heard that you found one behind the bed. No, the “good” glasses are not hidden in the garage.

Mom, I DO NOT know what happened to the glasses you bought last time.

I don’t think my husband gives them away, no I don’t think he takes them to work with him.

Yes, my car has 16 cup holders but the glasses you bought last time are not there. I don’t bother to speak these words, she can’t hear me anyway.

“But where could all the glasses be?” She wonders out loud as my daughter smashes a new mug onto the floor sending coffee and glass bits everywhere.

******English is not my first language - my non-Native speaker status is usually not noticeable, today it was. Glasses and cups are not them same thing, although glass cups are real. I didn’t realize I was making that mistake Until I started writing about the cup holders in my car. I left the piece as is anyway - I think mistakes encourage greatness.

This was my entry for today’s freewrite hosted by @mariannewest. Thank you to all the freewriters and encouragers, you make steemit awesome.

that happens to me sometimes too. I just have the wrong word or a different meaning stuck in my head. But the beauty of freewrite is that it is all good :)

And I agree. The exercise is about letting go of the critical mind - and sometimes, that means we skip around a bit.

Thanks for stopping by ❤️

Mothers!!
We have a saying in English 'The man who never made a mistake never made anything' so I guess you could say that mistakes encourage greatness.
Here's today's challenge for you

Good luck!

I don't know if its just me, but in my family we say "glasses" for glass drinking cups as well as for spectacles. I'm not sure if that's a Southern American thing...but your use of "glasses" here didn't trip me up at all.

Oh good, I tripped myself up when I started talking about cups instead of glasses. It’s fun tripping on language - sometimes it leads to new meanings.

Mom - they are what they are)

Good entry! Good luck)

❤️❤️Thank you

Thank you for the desire to participate and for trying to overcome the language barrier! I thought that it came out rather well. 🙂

Some of the freewriters here post their entries in their native language and also in English, I think that it is a good idea since what we post here will be recorded on the blockchain forever and who knows 50 or 100 years from now who will log onto Steemit and want to read our stories. Perhaps it will be a young grandkid or great grandkid, or maybe someone doing research on us from before the time that we became famous so that they can write our biography lol. Just saying. 😉

That’s a sweet idea that someone will be reading my work in the future. It’s almost as nice as the idea of steem reaching $1000!

I should have been more clear. I am confident in my language skills. It’s just that sometimes, even though I’ve been speaking the language for decades, when quickly translating a thought - you can mis translate. It’s been happening some with the freewrites, since they are all about writing with what comes in the moment.

"Glasses" means "glass drinking dishes" too, you did great!

I agree, I could have totally faked it. It definitely through me off though. Thanks for your continued support. Still loving steemit ❤️

This is so funny! I love the ending. 😂

Thank you. Glad you were amused.

that’s exactly what happens to the cups too!

You did great on this article. I am glad you posted it as is because I like it just as you have written it!

Thank you 😊 I guess we all expose ourselves a little in our writing even if we don’t meant to.

We do! And there is nothing wrong with this. Seeing into the soul of the writer makes us closer to them. We can identify with what they are writing. The hallmark of a good writer.
