There it was. The one whose work caused him pleasure and pain. His tears could be seen by anyone, but moved no one. His was a punishment no soul could bear, unless such soul was filled with so much pain and guilt that the punishment became their sole reason to live... to keep living.
His were so terrible a sin that he never cursed at his terrible fate. The more terrible one's sins are, the more terrible the hell we live. There it was carrying and carrying, that weight no other soul could carry, let alone for so much time. There it was. Once a man, now a donkey, carrying the weight of his crimes, with no one caring about the pain and the struggle of the task.
However, time was getting closer. 99 years, 364 days, 23 hours, 59 minutes, 59 seconds since he started this path of penance. One second to have his soul freed from it. His 100-hundred-year-long punishment. So there it was. Lying on the floor. One would say there was a smile on that donkey's face.
It's never too late at freewritehouse!
Great story. I wonder what that terrible crime was.
