I’ve never really understood the concept of the military, no disrespect intended to any service men past or present, to their families or friends. It just seems such a crazy idea that we employ people to kill others we don’t know, we have no beef with, and whose only crime is inhabiting a particular geographical location.
If governments want to wage war, why don’t they wage it on each other?
What has it got to do with the citizenry? Do you want to bankroll some poor bugger being blown to bits as he leaves work to go home to his family, or some ordinary joe soap as he brings his kids to school? Do you really?
If rules for war can be agreed upon, why not rules against war? If we can decide who the world’s best athletes are through competition, why not decide who wins the war in a game of Risk? Is it really more complicated than that?
Yeah, I know, I’m not really that silly. Those were rhetorical questions. We already know the answer. Filthy lucre.

As general Smedley Butler once said, war is a racket.
Great writing @deirdyweirdy, followed.
Thanks for that. Appreciate the support.
I have pondered this question alot. I really dont understand the mentality of someone signing up to fight someone elses war especially since history proves that most are based on lies and only for the benefit of the rich and corrupt. I suppose i'm a lover not a fighter.
Ah sweetie, if it were up to you and I, sure life would be all and
that filthy lucre..nasty stuff.
send me any of it that you have.
I'll dispose of it for you.
HURRY...long term exposure is dangerous to you.
the threat is real.
As I already said, I'm not really that silly!
?
Ah...I get it now..
the whole post was a satire.
you were making fun of the willfully ignorant people who believed that kind of stuff.
thanks for the explanation.
You're very welcome. I'm always pleased to bestow knowledge where there is ignorance.
When the tyrant has disposed of foreign enemies by conquest or treaty and there is nothing to fear from them, then he is always stirring up some war or other, in order that the people may require a leader. - Plato
Im intrested to know what you think this game of risk may be ?
War is a form of risk (the ultimate risk so to speak)
My apologies if I was not clear. I meant the board game Risk.
Thanks for reading
hahahahah ohhhhh
The title created quite an image in my head :)
Unfortunately I can't claim that as original. It was the title of a movie many years ago.
Cheers for reading.
The cruelties of war would point to that ideal @deirdyweirdy, but that is just it-ideal. Man has some beast inside him that only war apparently satisfies.
A great reminisce!
Perhaps we could find some way to slay that beast.
Thanks for the visit.
Yep, no winners in war, except the weapons companies.... You pose some very good questions there
Cheers and thanks as always for the support.
I've been thinking this exact same thing for so long. It's just absurd that something like war has rules; "Yeah you can kill each others. But don't do it using flamethrowers, or nasty gasses. Only bullets and bombs." Why not just stop this madness and give a middle finger to governments who want us to sacrifice ourselves because of some stupid ideology they hold.
Unfortunately, there just isn't any money in peace.
Yeah, right... I cannot come up with any good answer...and I guess you wouldn't like any of the others, like In your dreams.
Unfortunately, we won't live to see the day when there won't be any more wars.
No, we most certainly won't. As long as we all keep believing we need government protection from some nebulous enemy, we will have perpetual war.
A man who fights and runs away will live to fight another day !
Hahaha, yeah, us Irish are famous for it.
