I've started doing something I tried back in the early 2000's, the side hustle to make extra cash. At that time, I basically did pay-per-click and affiliate link websites which made me a little bit but I didn't keep them up. While I will be trying out affiliate links again, I will be sticking to only Amazon links as I am a heavy Amazon Prime user myself. The days of pay-per-click are long gone and I will not even bother looking at that anymore. Aside from this, I have been researching the many ways people are making money in the current gig economy and what may work for me in Canada (I find many are USA only).
As I'm currently working as a freelance web and IT support guy, I usually have plenty of free time to explore other moderate effort and passive income methods. After working most of my life in office jobs, usually doing PHP web development, I have found that it is much more of a grind now that I'm in my 40's. I would dread going in to work each day, my health was suffering. There are many reasons for this which I won't get into but after mostly leaving my "career" behind I have become much happier and stress free in general. The only problem is that participating in the freelancing / gig economy does not equate to a steady income (or in many cases, not much income at all). Of course, there are exceptions to this and these are the cases you usually hear about. For every one successful gig economy worker there are probably hundreds who try it and fail at it. I realise I am very lucky to be able to even try this as I have a spouse that is still in the normal workforce making a decent income, which supports my alternate income efforts and failures.
My plan is to document the schemes I am trying out here. Probably most of the links I provide in my blog posts will contain affiliate and referral links... please use them as they do no harm to you and give me a small monetary bonus if you end up spending money at said website. Look for upcoming posts about my adventures in this gig economy.
