It cramps my brain that people climb mountains, dive the deepest oceans, blast into space, build artificial intelligence and set continual physical endurance records, but for some reason they can't move past the idea that we need political and spiritual overlords to tell us what we can and cannot do with our lives. The simple truth is that we should be able to do whatever we wish as long as it doesn't impinge on others. Additionally, we should all be responsible for our own actions and selves, but have the humanity to help those who cannot help themselves.
Freedom is accepting the burden of your own actions with the joy of being able to try whatever you wish as long as you don't harm others. As Jefferson said: "I'd prefer dangerous freedom over peaceful slavery". Why do some people feel compelled to control others? Why do they think they are so smart that they know what is best for everyone. It's this personality type that is the danger to freedom and yet they also seem to rise to the top due to the fact that they seem self secure. It's the wise man that knows he knows nothing. And it's these wise people who don't show certainty and so no one follows them.
We need to ensure that we place these wise people above the political trash that fill our current political ranks if we must have leaders. Better yet, why don't we move away from being controlled to being charge of ourselves? Perhaps we should give Voluntarism a try.. what do we have to lose, but shitty leadership and shackles.
