Since I've been in town for a little bit, there's been a number of places worth going. One of the first things I did was go to a live TV taping. I went to Conan and it was awesome. Before I went, I checked with http://teamcoco.com/tickets called and asked if I could get standby ticket. I went to 6564 Forrest Lawn Drive in Burbank and picked up my standby ticket. We waited for an hour or so and they bused us to the studio. I would encourage you to act excited because when I did I got a Conan T-shirt. Woo Hoo!
Another place I went was Griffith Park and the Greek Theater. I was hoping to go up to the Griffith Observatory, but there was a mile of cars ahead of me. I would suggest getting there as soon as the park opens. To get there I exited the 101 on Vermont and went all the way up. Good place to hike and relax.
The Graystone Mansion is another awesome place to visit. On Sunset and Doheny, you go straight on Dohoney and go down to Loma Vista. Turn right and follow signs to park. When I was there, a wedding was about to happen. I probably spent at least 30-45 minutes walking around this huge estate and checking all the different gardens on the property. There's also a nice panoramic view of the city.
Obviously, with Los Angeles being so close to the ocean, the choices for beaches is tremendous. The one I went to and enjoyed a lot is Manhattan Beach. From the 405, exit Rosencrans and head west to Highland and turn right. On Highland, I managed to find a parking spot right next to the park. I walked down to the beach and after I was finished there's changing rooms with showers available to get the sand off you. Or most of it.
I know there's dozens of places I haven't been to, please feel free to reply with some places you enjoy.
Its trespassing to go to but one of LA's hidden gems has to be sunken city. Its an old part of the city that fell into the ocean, but now is a gallery of street art with a beautiful view of the ocean.

Thanks for the suggestion. If I get a chance to get out towards San Pedro again, I'll check the area out.
