The Fractally White Paper Addendum 1 came out 3 days ago
https://hive.blog/fractally/@dan/fractally-white-paper-addendum-1
and it has been received well within the community. The addition of a second round introduces an interesting situation. So far the Fractal Genesis meetings have been very engaging. There is a 30 minute pre-meeting followed by a 15 minute AMA session. Then theres is a 45 minute consensus process in breakout rooms, and finally followed up by a re-joining of the main room where you can always count on interesting discussion and analysis recapping the days event.

Under the Addendum there will be some changes, a notable one is that there will be two rounds of consensus meetings. A question that has come up is, what will happen to the round 1 participants that reach a rank of level 1 thru 3? Many would probably not hang around for another 45 minutes to engage in the after party i.e. the re-joining the main room for spirited discussion. I feel it may be valuable to the Genesis Fractal to keep the engagement of this group. What could be done to generate engagement during this 45 minute gap? Furthermore how might we entice engagement from community members who have not actively participated in weekly consensus meetings?

I would propose a Spectator Mode for the members whom rank 1 thru 3. This would offer a number of benefits:

  • keep engagement during the 45 minute gap between the end of round 1 and the end of round 2 where the whole community would be re-joined in the main room for a post-game analysis and spirited discussion.
  • This also could offer an opportunity for lower ranked member to observe more widely the contributions of higher level members and how they present themselves for ranking. Maybe we have some valuable members who are just not communicating their contributions effectively. This could result in a miscalculation of resource distributions. A strengthening of members individual skills will benefit the community as a whole as we all seek to advocate for the Fractal Governance system to ever wider audiences.
  • Spectator mode could also be viewed as a fun tool for socializing. Let's say a couple members exit after round 1, but they have a team member make it to round 2, then the members that exited Round 1 would have ability to communicate in a group chat and root for their team member's Round 2 consensus meeting.
  • Finally this could allow an opportunity for members who have refrained from active participation due to shyness or uncertainty to observe how the system functions. Maybe a system like theta.tv could be implemented in the future, that would rewards viewers with a small allocation of a community token to incentivize viewer growth which could lead to active member growth. It would be like having C-Span during the Constitutional Convention of 1787 with the ability for live chat and compensation!

I definitely like the idea of having something engaging going on during the second round. It would be a shame to lose all the post-consensus engagement we currently enjoy.

I like the idea of spectator mode! Maybe a bit challenging on the technical side, as the video conferencing is decentralized. We wouldn't want each video participant to be responsible to upload their stream to n additional peers for viewing, because we need to provide maximum possible bandwidth to those who need it to reach consensus.

But perhaps there are some clever solutions.

Thanks for the good ideas.
James

Agreed - we had a discussion on Round 1 and Round 2 participants and I'm very much aligned with your thinking here. (just saw this post). Even if not via video, audio takes less bandwidth and could be a consideration for larger audience (spectator) distribution.

There are certainly a number of additional opportunities to consider.

Thanks for thoughts and feedback Gregory !

Thanks for the thoughtful comment James , much appreciated !

Really nice article @highsteam1900.

I agree with James' comment. A "spectator mode" is a wonderful idea.

I don't want to lose the new people, and it would be great training for them to see how the veterans conduct themselves.

Maybe there could be a "galley mode" where any member could watch the governing process in action of any room, sort of like the galley in the House of Representatives.

Thanks Matt ! Much appreciated , and a galley mode sounds like a great idea also and easier to accomplish from a technical standpoint i would presume

Yes I think this would be beneficial to newer members.

Logistically might be difficult to manage on zoom?
