FORTNITE vs PUBG... Which is the better game?

Now in writing this post I first off have to say that I personally have never played Fortnite. However I have followed it very closely and I am always watching YouTube videos and Twitch streams. I have played PUBG for probably about the last 6-8 months on and off. As my personal choice I prefer the realism that PUBG offers with real gun types, vehicles and non destructible terrain. I know many PUBG streamers have recently split there time between the two games in what seems to be them hopping on the bandwagon somewhat, guys like DrDisrespect and Shroud didn't seem to care about Fortnite all that much until it started to blow up and become somewhat mainstream. Their reasons for not liking the look of the game was similar to mine with the cartoonish graphics and building of structures being their main reasons for not switching straight away.

However when you look at how things are going for each game individually it takes me back in time a little bit to when PUBG started to gain notoriety over the then very popular H1Z1. Essentially the same thing seems to be happening to PUBG now with Fortnite. What it comes down to when comparing why one game is more successful than the other would have to be first of all the price. The fact that PUBG is $30 and Fortnite is free makes a massive difference. Fortnite is basically accessible for anyone with a somewhat decent PC and internet connection to use, not to mention they are rolling out a mobile version as we speak. That is probably the main reason why Fortnite is doing better in both terms of viewership and finances at the moment.

The next big issues PUBG is facing in regards to regaining its momentuem it has lost to Fortnite is the fact that game optimisation seems to be a more important issue in regards to Fortnite. PUBG unfortunately still has issues when it comes to the way the game is played. In recent times the developers have fixed some FPS issues but it does still feel clunky sometimes. Following on from that has to be the fact that an average win takes about 12-16 mins approximately on Fortnite whereas PUBG games can take anywhere from 25-35 mins for a win. Everybody enjoys a fast paced game and this leads on to the next point I have which is PUBG losing its own unique new innovations and instead implementing updates that seem to just be 'copying' Fortnite. The implementation of emotes, skins and the new smaller map all seem to be replies to what Fortnite has already done and I personally believe that this is the wrong approach.

In order for PUBG to stay competitive with Fortnite a few things need to happen. First of all game optimisation! The game needs to be able to play smoothly and at the highest capacity as well. Secondly a focus on implementing new and exciting things that haven't been done before in the battle royale genre would potentially gain eyes and viewership on the game and my final point would be developing the competitive side of the game in some manner more than what they have done already. Esports could be a massive advantage and the first game that manages to figure it out could literally kill the other game in terms of revenue and hype.

Anyway that's all I have to say on the matter and I would really appreciate some of your thoughts when it comes to these games. Which one do you play and why? or if you play both which one do you prefer and why? Thanks for reading!

Sort:

Fortnite is currently the better game. The meta here is just insane with all the fresh content they put out each week. PUBG is sadly dieing off unless they can turn it around. Fornite is alot friendlier than PUBG also, way easier for someone to pick up Fortnite and start playing and stay interested, PUBG is for the more advanced.

Yeah that's sort of what I see as well as far as Fortnite being much easier to just pick up and play. PUBG does seem to require a little higher skill level in order to make kills and get into the later game. On the flip side I know the building aspect on Fortnite does need attention and practice in order to master. Overall I think the small new map on PUBG could potentially bring things back a little bit as long as it is both playable and enjoyable from its release. Cheers for the comment!
