Funny enough this is the second time he has defeated Cristiano Ronaldo in the final 3 man's list. The Uefa Champions league award also was like this and he won but Ronaldo won the best goal award.

• The other award that he won was that of the World cup that was recently played in Russia. He took his team to the World cup final were they lost to France but at least, he did awesomely well and he contribute massively, so he was rewarded for it.

  attention when he was playing for Tottenham Hotspur and Cristiano Ronaldo was playing for Real Madrid as at then. People complained that Real Madrid spent too much money On him and the pressure was so much at that time that he could not match up with the competition at Real Madrid because Kaka was still the Midfield Magician. He Learn, waited for his time On the bench and he finally got it right.
