The winter transfer window is open. Bigger transfers than we are used to will happen. I'm sure. Especially in the Premier League. If the Premier League was a tough league it's even tougher now. Tougher than ever for the teams competing for a Champions League spot. Teams like Liverpool have already made their first signing of Van Dijk, but more is about to happen. In this post, I will try to predict transfers that I think will happen.
Coutinho to Barcelona
I am very confident in this one. Even though Klopp said that he won't leave, I think he will. First of all, Liverpool spends 70m £ on Van Dijk, and even though they have a lot of money, this is a sign of Coutinho leaving. I know they don't play the same positions, but still. It's the same thing that happened with Pogba and Hiquain. Juventus first bought Hiquain, and a couple of days later sold Pogba. Teams, nowadays, tend to buy a replacement before completing the sale. Also, Nike made a big mistake, by revealing that Coutinho shirts are up for sale. This statement might have been a PR stunt, but if not, it looks like the deal is done.
Giroud might leave
The World Cup is this summer. Players who want to have a chance of getting a place in the world cup squad simply has to play. Giroud is currently not playing enough, and he is clearly not satisfied with the situation. Also, the French international is up against some incredible players. Players like Griezmann, Mbappe, Lacazette, and Benzema are almost sure of getting a call from Deschamps. Giroud was extremely close to leaving Arsenal during the summer, but apparently, his wife told him not to. I would say there's a good chance he will leave this winter.
PSG has to sell
Due to the almost nonexistent financial fair play they "has" to sell. Buying Neymar, and Mbappe (loan with buy-clause) has made UEFA extra aware of the economic situation in PSG. I would be very surprised if they won't sell any players because they have a lot of players to sell. Players like Lucas Moura, Draxler, Di Maria, and Pastore are not part of the regular starting eleven and are likely to look for other opportunities. For the same reason as Giroud, they all need to play if they want a chance of getting selected for the World Cup. I could easily see Draxler coming to the Premier League, and the same goes for Lucas Moura. Di Maria and Pastore might look towards Spain or Italy.
What transfer do you see happening this winter?

I think Sanchez and Özil will leave Arsenal. And maybe Ibra will find a new club. I hope Arsenal buy better defensive player.
Don't think Ibra will leave. Also, he is injured now, and out for about a month. Sanchez might leave, but Özil won't.
I hope Özil stays :)
As a Liverpool fan I hope that Coutinho will not be sold. There are 2 big reasons why I believe he will not move this transfer window.
1 - Liverpool are in the knockout rounds of the Champions League and have a favourable draw to progress even further, Coutinho will want to play in the big games of this competition and if he moves this window he will be ineligible to do so.
2 - The World Cup tournament is coming at the end of the season, with his current form for Liverpool Coutinho is sure to be included in the Brazil squad. If he doesn't settle or cannot break into Barcelona's team then his place may go to someone else.
There's a good chance he will move on from Liverpool eventually but not this transfer window. I hope!
You have a great point with the Champions League, but I simply don't see how he can't be selected for the Brazil squad. Thanks for the great comment! :)
You are welcome.
Brazil have so many world class players, especially attacking midfield players. I just meant that if he did move and for some reason he was unable to maintain the level of performance he's been playing for Liverpool they could decide to choose someone else.
Many players in history have dropped in form after moving to a knew country.
World Cups are the pinnacle of a players career, it is a lot to risk for the sake of waiting until the transfer window at the start of next season.
I agree wholeheartedly and as a fellow Liverpool fan, it was essentially undo all the early season progress we have made if we allow him to leave in January. I envision a deal being struck in January with the move being made in the summer, the same as we have with Keita. I can see why Barca would want to sign him now prior to the summer window but it takes 2 to tango and Liverpool have to be willing to sell.
sorry my friend, coutinho does not seem to be sold.
I think he will. Just wait ;)
Arsenal could lose Giroud, Ozil, Alexis and Wilshere this January, FML.
No way Wilshere will leave, but the others might.
I'm not usually one to speculate but if we were to talk areas that require strengthening I would say
Chelsea need a second number 9. Batshuayi hasn't come to the party.
Manchester need to find another feeder so that the pressure isn't all on Pogba.
I still feel like Liverpools defense is poor even though they've picked up van Dijk.
Arsenal need to let go of an Sanchez. I don't believe players like that can stay where they are and become happy.
Looks like you were right about Coutinho. Sad news for Liverpool.
Yes...for Liverpool ;)
