After having a sumptuous dinner our sweet tooth kicked in. My friends and I decided to venture out and look for a dessert parlour to satisfy our cravings. We went into this place called grid. It is a food place and a dormitory. Many stalls are lining within the premises. Below are the food stalls, laundry shops and art shops, the upper part is the dormitory. During our little adventure we stumbled upon this cute and tiny cafe called the Plank’s cafe.
The cafe took our attention because it was very artistic even from the outside. There were dream catchers hanging in the window glass. We went inside, look for something to eat and explored the cafe. It is actually a small space probably around 10 sqm area. But. It is tiny but mighty. The whole place is a work of art. My friends noticed about the interior and the materials used in designing. Me on the other hand was busy taking pictures and not really paying attention to what they were saying because honestly, I’m not so familiar with any housing materials.
About few minutes a lady which is one of the owners came to us and explained some information about the cafe. Apparently, it was made from junks. To say that we were surprised was an understatement. Of course we knew that some creations were innovative and frugal but knowing that almost everything is manually done was beyond amazing.
The owners, three of them rent a two unit place to occupy. The room was from a trailer van. They did all the labour work with their bare hands, from the walls to the ceiling to the floors. It took months to finish everything because they didn’t hire an extra hand. Even the walls are covered with book pages. The chairs came from a junk shop. The lighting is a bulb that was encapsulated by a diamond-formed straw. Everything came from scratch! Except for the paintings, they bought it for a cheap price. The pictures hanging on the wall are the documentation of what they said as the labour that soon bloomed into fruits.
The Menu
Just like a usual cafe, they offer desserts and beverages such as cakes, brownies, coffees and frappes. There is one thing special about their menu actually, you can paint you own toast.
For 107php you are given two sliced breads and six different colour of edible paint. You can paint the bread in whatever design you want. After such you choose what filling you’d like to have. In my friend’s case, she went for banana Nutella.
On the other hand, I ordered chocolate fudge with vanilla ice cream. The brownies is soft and velvety. It’s only 80 php.
Aside from that, there are also books inside if you’re a bookworm. Most of their books were donated from their customers. If you wish to donate one then feel free. ☺️
Thank you for reading. Have a good day steemians!! xoxo Jeizelle 😘
