As I’m trying to push myself more and more as a photographer and delving into new types of image making I’m really trying to dive into food photography.
A challenging genre for sure. Trying to figure out lighting and styling for the product. In a funny way shooting food for me this is similar to shooting marine life. You move around it or them rather than verbally directing a model.
As I progress through this more and more I’m looking forward to your feedback about my work.
Thanks for reading.

Hey, i think you did a good job on both pictures, but i have some piece of advice for you that you might actually already know as a professional photographer ^.^ i like the first picture a little more because you placed the food in the left corner. When you show only food with a bare background it would be better to introduce the picture with something in the left corner. If the corner is free, the food is floating in the space of the picture. I hope you understand what i am trying to say :D
Love the feedback, and thank you.
Nice work. Food photography can be really fun. As an advertising product photographer, I have a couple tips that will really help you along.
Light from the rear. This builds more interest, provides more texture and is generally a go to technique for food.
Search the portfolios on Workbook for "food" and go through the work you see there. Study the light. ;)
Look at food as a product. Then study product photography. Specifically lighting different "materials". You light textured surfaces differently than you light highly reflective surfaces. Study those techniques.
You pay attention to those things above and you'll see leaps and bounds in improvement (not that what you have isn't good). We can all be better. :)
Also, if you ever have any questions regarding food/product photography, I'm happy to help. Don't hesitate to get in touch. :)
Love the feedback and thank you. I check out your blog as well, fantastic work. As I grow and do more food photography I'll be in touch. Thanks again. Keep up the amazing work.
No problem and thanks for the kind words and resteem! Seriously, do be in touch!
You too! :)
great to see you trying out new stuff. You seem to master a lot of genres! Was it available light?
The light sources seem quite different in the two ones, I think I like the first one best.
wow that delicious! of course I wanna eat YOU... :-P hehe! looks really tasty and good pics! nice shots!
I like the second pic more, I think that the better lighting (natural lighting, I think) brings more life and colors to the food.
Stunning shot! Really loved the colours and the composition. Congrats.
I vote for the first one. :) I feel that the subject is more clear there. In the second there's too much happening on that cutting board. That's my opinion. And I'm a minimalist, more or less. :) Wonderful shots nonetheless.
Agreed!
Great work as usual, but it is great to see something like this! Steemit is great for encouraging new creativity even in seasoned pro's!
The first one looks more natural for me. It gets my vote.
Awesome post!
Could you maybe describe more in detail what goes through your thoughts as a photographer when deciding the frames?
Cheers, Simon @delightly
You tried play with light.
On the second photo a little more to the right of the center more light than it was necessary.
But your photos is good/
Thanks for sharing
Although I am a newbie to the Steemit, I do a lot of food photography. Feel free to visit my site and see my work. I love your kitchen knife. Very nice!
Wow, I really admire those who can take nice photos of food... I have none :D (only some not so cool fruit shots). Excellent capture, congratulation :)
Scott, both photos are really very good. The composition is great and I love how you have used the light so effectively.
I love your photos scott. You inspire me. I hope i can also buy real camera not just a camera of my smartphone. 😂 I love your great perspective
Lighting of the photographs superb!
nice photography @scottphoto
i just joined steemit and post my photography for the first time, please look. thanks :)
what it is, it looks very delicious, but unfortunately do not know how the end of the cooking
Very good.
Nice pictures.
I also try to improve my photos of my food.
in the beginning cooking was in the foreground but in the course of time photography has received more and more attention. but I am still at the beginning I think.
the second pictures is amazing after dealing with the light.
It looks really good. BTW I prefer second photograph. I think more light increase appetite :) As I know in food photography they mostly use fake plastic foods to make it more desirable. I support to use original food :)
nice photos :) food also looks appetizing :)
Excellent work! Definitely an upvote worth!
Picture 1 is better and eye-pleasing than 2. 1 has better natural lighting and positioning of the objects. I can feel a sense of harmony in 1.
But so much contrast in 2 and putting all things in the middle of the photo seems odd to me.
Please excuse my meddlesome.
You are doing really great....
